BMW - Soft Paint?

I use a cyclo polisher and was talking with someone from topoftheline.com who told me that they always have to use the white pads on their cyclo for all products because the green and yellow pads scratch their BMW's paint no matter what they use. Has anyone else found this to be true on BMWs? If so, that explains my problem earlier that I posted today about scratching my car. My BMW is new but I never heard anything about soft paint until now.

Thanks!

Brad

Brad I have noticed that the BMW paints are softer than most but never really had a problem with them hazing or scratching that bad. If my memory serves me correct there was a recall for some BMW paint not to long ago , I honestly can't remember the years it affected but I would look into it with your dealer. Hope you get it all worked out.

It might be that BMW do use softer paint, but it is all relative, there are plently of BMW drivers on this forum who have used various things to polish the paintwork without any major problems. Maybe what they are saying is to start with the least abrasive stuff first.

Some time ago there was another thread where some shop or dealer had said you cannot use Klasse or Zanio type products on BMW's because BMW had a special paint that reacted to polymer type products.

I too thought that BMW used a soft paint. However, I have been told this is not the case from a very reliable source, namely a person who details ONLY bmw's. Too, this person uses ONLY Zaino.

I have used yellow and white pads from Lake country and had no problems with scratching. At least not from the pad. I am about to top several coats of Z2 with Pinnacle Souvern paste wax. I can't wait to see the results. Being a garage queen I'm not at all worried about the durability issue.,

Cheers!

I have used polymer products (Klasse) on both of my BMWs and they work great. I had to have the hood of my M5 re-clearcoated and I don't see a difference in between the hood and the rest of the car in terms of how hard the clear is.

Pretty interesting, I have usen nothing but Zaino on my BMW since new, probably has around 70-80 coats and it works great!

Sorry, I did not make myself clear. The thread on BMW paint not liking Zanio etc went on to say there was no problem at all in using polymer based products.
