bmw brake dust sucks.......

I just got a bmw and as lots of you know, the brake dust is horrible. i noticed that some of you have tried zaino z-cs on the wheels to reduce the brake dust accumulation. did it work for you? any other product you guys recommend to help me keep the wheels looking half way decent without daily cleanings?

I've had 3 BMWs and currently own 2... use KSG on the wheels.. it'll last a good amount of time and makes cleaning a lot easier. Before that however, replace the pads with something else, like Hawk HPS, etc. that don't dust as much

Take it to the shop and have them swap the pads out for Axxis Deluxe or EBC Green Stuff. Low/No Dust, Low/No Fade, No squeal, No worries.

I replaced the pads on my Daughter's 330ci with Akebonos and there is almost no dust. They are much better than EBC green stuff that still throws off dust. I was amazed at how little dust they create.

Oh yeah, they are horrible. But then, the brake dust is probably the byproduct of excellent braking performance.

Small sacrifice. The front fender is often accumulated with brake dust though, and claying the area turns the clay really dark.

Low dust pads are the answer.

And keep the wheels waxed. I use multiple coats of Klasse SG and the dust comes off very easily.

braking performance is good, so i do not want to change the pad. also, bmw is responsible for changing pads/rotors on this car for the next 6 years/100k miles....do not think they will approve if i were to change pads to a non-bmw pad.

is there really a product that repells dust instead of making it easier to clean the dust once its already on the wheel?

I have hawk pads on my altima, the dusting is moderate, but much better than BMW OEM.

I am pretty sure that there is a tradeoff for lower dusting pads, usually it is fade resistance from my experience.

i don't mind the dusting for the performance, plus it lets me know if I missed a spot during the wash

There are a number of companies who claim that their products repel dust but in reality none do this. The advantage is that the wheels are easier to clean when any type of sealant is used. It does not have to be specifically a wheel sealant which are normal sealants with a higher price:p:p

So I guess I'm imagining things when I coat one wheel with a regular paint sealant and the opposite side with the EO stuff and the EO side stays clean while the sealed side gets dirty?

I have a car that turns wheels black in two days. I love the EO Keep Clean Wheel.

I did the same thing with my wife's car--Wheel wax (the pinstuff) one side and Menzerna Full Metal Jacket sealant on the other side. Both sides dusted the same but the wheel wax side did clean easier. Her wheels dust along with the best of them as most German cars do.

Yeah, I think you are thinking about wheel sealants. The Eagle One is a spray on and walk away... is that SOWA? It is completely different to a dedicated wheel sealant. It actually repels brake dust. Try some before you knock it some more, you might be impressed.

i think that you are fighting technology backwards. good ceramic pads will give you at least as good performance as your stock pads, often better. don't be worried about changing pads. you will be fighting a losing battle by attempting to "voo doo" the dust away. it takes way too much time and effort to keep your wheels clean (not to mention the dust that is getting thrown down the side of you car). i've tried all the brake dust "ointments" out there (some work) but changing the pads STOPS THE PROBLEM...PERIOD. i'll bet that BMW makes a ceramic pad that you can buy if you are worried about keeping it totally "BMW". i have AC Delco ceramic pads direct from GM performance that i put on when the car was new. it takes longer to jack the car up and remove the wheels than it takes to actually change the pads.

why fight it  that's just my take on it. :)

not trying to pick a fight here, but that's not quite true. ceramic pads work best where aggressive/repeated braking demands better heat disapation than conventional pads can deliver (like at a track). their performance isn't realized during conventional driving, which is why good conventional pads usually out-perform ceramics under such conditions.

no fight here :). it's just my opinion. i personally cannot tell the difference in performance on my 400hp C6 in NORMAL driving with the ceramics. you are correct, they do work BEST under agressive driving but they work just fine under normal driving conditions on all of my high performance cars. just like "stock" pads, there are many grades of hp ceramic pads out there. i stand by my original post about brake dust and not brake performance. you CAN have your cake and also eat it with today's technology. i speak from my personal experience only.....don't try this at home kids.

One side is EO Keep Clean Wheel, the other is Poorboys Wheel sealant. One week, lots of rain and about 250 miles.
