BMW 850Ci - JSATEK

Old School

BMW 850Ci full detail.

This car came to me as result of a garage construction incident. The vehicle was covered in cement dust in and out. This is one of my favorite BMW’s and was glad to see someone kept it in such good condition over the years.

Looks good in my driveway…

This car came with a small project. Remove the cosmoline from the intake runners. The owner bought kleen-strip paint remover to use for this project after reading many posts on the internet. I ended up blasting it with a wire brush and 300 degrees of steam from my vapor cleaner.

Half-way:

Project finished….

Next up, the interior. The seats were thirsty for Leatherique. It drank 2 doses over a 6 hour period. Vapor cleaned all other surfaces and carpets.

That was left to soak for 6 hours.

Paint: Makita rotary and M105 with a yellow Lake Country followed by Menzerna 106ff and a white pad.

Justin: Killer work!

-So on the engine, just steam and a wire brush or did you use the stripper too?

-What was the LSP?

-Thoughts on you picking up a mint 850CSi for yourself?

Thanks all.

I neglected to do a complete write up, the LSP was Zaino Z5-pro 2x. followed with Z-8.

Sean - Engine was just steam and wire brush head on the rough surfaces, and a nylon brush head on the polished surfaces. I'd consider an 840Ci in red or silver.

-This customer also owns that Imola red 740i I told you about. If he wanted to sell it, I'd buy it today.

Hey Justin,

Jeff Milarsky with the 635csi nightmare here! We are headed back to NY from Santa Fe and wanted to say hi. Great work on the 850ci, one of the weird and wonderful BMW designs. Your work always amazed me. I need to bring my M Coupe by so you can advise.

all best,

Jeff

Superb turn around!

I plan on giving my leather the leatherique treatment this week. How did you apply the rejuvenator oil?

Wow, good as new. Awesome car!!

I have always loved the 8 series, very different and un-original than the other bimmers. Anyways once again, awesome car!:up

I apply Leatherique wearing a rubber glove by hand and massage it into the seats. I also use a soft nail brush to get it into all of the cracks and stitching. YOu need to let it sit for a few hours to get results. Its like glue when you remove it, dont panic. THe second step removes all of the resdue.

Great work man! I lol'd at the old school BMW car phone.

The phone keeps it real, just needs one of those old cellular antennas to complete the look.

Is it fine to just apply it with the two microfiber applicators in the kit? When I use the cleaner I plan on using the leather brush they give you and scrubbing the seats. Is that right?

The brush is good. I like to rub it in with my hands, then scrub with a brush. I feel there is adequate coverage after the second application.

Dont be surprised if you do not get excellent results. Many cars have "pleather" seating surfaces with only small portions of real leather. Even Lexus have "treated" "leather" surfaces. The owners manual suggests only soap and water. The Leatherique will not penetrate the factory applied coating and perform its magic.
