BMW 740iL and new Ridgid Portable Shop Vac

Finished out a high mileage (102,000 miles) 740iL that needed a ton of work: wet sanding, compounding, polishing, Ultrafina SE...Da Works! But, the finish came out very nice for the car.

I splurged on a new shop vac: a Ridgid Porta Pak that is super for the features: everything stores in the side lids, comes with decent attachments, and has a blower port.

I can easily carry it to the car and work at vacuming or blow drying carpeting or seating to dry. Nice unit at Home Depot for $99 if you folks are thinking about a shop vac.

Car looks nice and wet.



I just picked up my self a new ridgid shop Vac also, i opted for the more powerful model with 6.5 hp motor. Let me tell you, it is the best tool i have bought for auto detailing so far. It has cut down the time i spend on the interior to nearly in half. It replaced my 5 year old 2.5 hp shop vac.
 
The 740 looks terrific! :)



I've got the Ridgid 4050 (compact 5.0 peak hp) and the pro hose kit. A couple of terrific products! The vacuum really sucks (like it should!) and the pro hose is 10' long and seems impervious to kinking.

That's exactly what I have and I love it as well!

I never realized the hose on the Pro-Pack was that short. My shopvac still works pretty well, but I've been wanting the Pro-Pack just because of how everything stores away. But if I had to upgrade to the pro hose, that would destroy the purpose of getting this unit anyway. Maybe the one for $69.99 (4050?) might be a better, cheaper option for me?

The hose uncoils to a pretty fair distance, but I find if I pick up the unit and move it near the area I'm working (i.e. back seat), I can reach that area comfortably. The best feature is the unit slips in my trunk easily and gives me much needed room.

Paint looks good, vac looks nice(I'm considering one), but those wheel wells could use some attention. For some reason they jumped out at me before anything else.

Yea: those are the last things I do, along with the windows. I did the carpeting last night and lower the windows, open the sunroof and let the shop fan dry out the interior. Tonight, I'll know out the windows and spray the wells with Adams UnderCarriage Spray.
