BMW 330d - Dealer prep, need I saw more?

OK well, most of you will remember the whole, detailing vs valeting.

This is EXACTLY the reason I wish to remain a detailer and make it quite clear I do not valet.

First of this car is 6months old, it has the following after being "prepared" for a customer.

Cobwebs

Burns on the rubber seals

Polish in most tight areas

Holograms

Stuck on contaminents

worst of all Wet Sanding from what looks like 2500.

I mean come on the **** this was a joke. It's not a cheap car by anymeans, but, to be honest I wouldn't expect this if I was buying a bloody Daewoo.

Anyway onto the Procedure. This was a full external Detail, interior will follow, he never dressed the dash which is brilliant, would have meant more stripping.

Wash with turtle wax clear vue - decided it was pants and got some NXT wash.

Polish with Meguiars burgandy pad and Optimum Polish

Polish with Meguiars Polishing pad and Vanilla Moose

Sealed with Ex-p by hand on foam applicator

Will wax 24hours after with pinnacle signature (just to try it)

If I dont like it then I shall use nattys.

The tyres have a coat of Meguiars tyre Gel (you know the one in the sqeezy bottle) lol!

The plastic recieved 303 protectant.

The wheel wells had some SPT

Now the pictures folks >>>>>

I mean if they leave holograms why did he not lift the grit as well. Its just rediculous really.

After recieving prep'd car there are still cobwebs everywhere. Poor.

The bit that hacked me off, if you don't know how to wet sand don't even attempt it on a car that is going to a customer, I don't even know if he went through the clear. I simply left this as its too risky to fix, until I get access to a paint thickness gauge.

DEEP BREATH ahhhhhhhhhh, the afters. The Bimmer is now back to how it should look.

Thanks for viewing and remember don't let anyone tell you a new car doesn't need detailed.

Its ok picky man, I got that with the cloth lying on the window straight after.

I think from what it was it looks superb.

Looks great. That part above the front grille where it was an attempted wetsand just looks like its hazy from not being polished out. You can see how the orange peel effect shows through it, but your judgement was good.. better safe than sorry.

Yeh guys do you think that was a 2500, as he hasn't even went through the OP on it. So i though he musta just gave up. Also something interesting I found that he never used a backing pad, as you could see three finger like shapes sanded into the finish.

I guess this is what keeps us in business. I have taken the plunge and bought a rotary so im gonna hit the wet sanding with that when it comes.

Thanks guys.

Wow i like proper red.

I don't know what grit sandpaper they used but it is not close to going through, unless the edge is different ( as you can still see OP). You should never wet sand that close to an edge unless you have to.

I had a look today and it looks as if he has used maybe 2500 and literally two passes.

So Im going to probably polish it out by hand since its so near the edge. :)

Is Turtle Wax's Clear Vue one of their car washes in Scotland, or did you wash the car with glass cleaner? (Clear Vue is a glass cleaner here.)

Afters look good! :woohoo:

Clear VUE is their range which includes a wax which dries clear (why i dont know!)

The wash is like a twin for it, I guess you are supposed to use both. I bought it as it said it had shine enhancers and i thought for £3 its not a great loss if it doesnt but a huge gain if it does.

Turns out its hopeless unless put in a foam gun. Lackin in lubricity which isn't good. lol.

Great detail - looks awesome in the afters. Oh, and I didn't see any dirt on the passenger wheel ... the drivers wheel maybe, but not the passengers! :grinno:

ahh theres always one eh....

Not to worry buddy car looks excellent mind i will be over soon to have a spin in it

Good job. I've currently got a one week old red VW GTi that's getting the same treatement. It was so trashed I've so far spent 11 hours on it and it's going to need another 4-5 hours before I'm done. 6 of those hours were spent getting the blue overspray off every single panel of the car...

Wow thats a whole lot of polishing there ben.

Just delved into the wonderful world of rotary skills. So I shall be going over it again before I put the Klasse twins on and some collinite for the winter. My plan of action for my car too. I may try something else on my ma's car but don't know what would hold up as well?

Terrific work on the car. You must be almost unique providing this standard of work up here on the west coast. :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

It never ceases to amaze me what people will settle for in this area in general from local garages, and worse, what some valeters will do. Superb.

Cheers

There are many good detailers coming out of the woodwork in Scotland now.

Grizzle for one is an excellent example of what the Scot's can do.

I do try and keep busy but im in my Honours year at Uni now, so I shall be looking after family car's only. Maybe the odd customer but I highly doubt it.

The customers have given me great experience and also provided finances for my new garage so Im happy and have no regrets.
