Blue Magic on Clearcoat Alloys?

I just bought a 97 Silverado with the 16" alloys. I sprayed on wheel cleaner made for clear finish wheels and sprayed Bleche-Wite to clean the tires (careful not to get it on the wheels too much).

When I sprayed the stuff off at the car wash, the finish on the alloys was streaked and white and didn't come off! I have done the same exact thing with the same wheels on another truck and it was fine.

At the advice of someone in another detailing forum, I used Blue Magic polish to get it off. It worked ok, but the white still remains, just not so visible. Another poster said the Bue Magic will destroy the clearcoat.

Is this true? Any other recommended products?

Thanks

Welcome to DC

To start what happened to your rims is the clear coat is hazed or streaked as you put it. Quite common with some wheel cleaners that might have been left on to long or might be to strong and again hazed the finish.

The polish that you used was not quite agressive enough to get it all out. I would look at Poorboys World one of our DC sponsors for his Pro polish. I have used this with much luck on removing the streaks/ hazing from wheel cleaners. If you can find 3M products in your area, most decent body shop/paint stores will have it , look for there light cut compound. Its another that I usewd before I founf Poorboys products.
Hope this helps
