Blue Ferrari 575 Maranello

This Ferrari is on consignment at my work. The owner has a new 430 Spider on order, so he decided to sell the car before the new one arrives. The car was in pretty good shape besides a few hairline scratches, light spiderwebbing and some fallout on the top surfaces. There was tons of caked-in wax in all the nooks & crannies which wasn't fun to get out.

All in all it was a pretty enjoyable detail.

Here's what the detail consisted of:

Washed exterior & cleaned engine compartment

Clayed with Kar Kraft clay bar

Buffed complete exterior with IP/RMG mix (70% IP/30% RMG) using foam polishing pad @1600 rpm

Buffed complete exterior with FP II using a foam finessing pad @1400 rpm

Z2 pro (ZFX'd) x2

Super Blue dressing on tires & wheel wells

Werkstatt's prime on wheels

I don't think that 1600 rpm is too high for removing defects, especially with a foam polishing pad (which is not very agressive but has some cutting action). I do all my final polishing at 1400 rpm with a finessing pad (which is the least agressive), so another 200 rpm doesn't seem crazy to me. I would rather increase my speed a little using a lighter pad than use an agressive pad at a slower speed. I would call the pad I used a light cutting pad, not a final finishing pad.

Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say?

I like the Maranello...it has that retro body line to it. Reminds me of old Aston Martins.

However, I don't like the wheels. They don't scream Italian Ferrari to me...more American Camaro.

Is that a straight blue?

1600 doesn't seem too high to me either??? I routinely buff at 1700-1750 when doing heavy swirl removal. Heck, I have branked her up to 2100 RPM's with a twisted wool pad before, just have to be careful.

Wow, that is even nicer than the Kia Spectra my boys and I detailed yesterday! ;)

Really excellent work as always, Rick. :)
