Blackfire with Zymol Carbon vs CG 50/50

Finally had a chance to try these out at the weekend.



Paint was in ok shape was polsihed with Menzerna Final Finish in early September so was washed and dryed and then the car was glazed/polished by hand with Clearkote VM and then treated two coats of Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant last weekend.



Liking it alot easy on and easy off, great looking, close to Carnuba depth, no flake muting and super slick :thumb: As slick as UPP and with as much depth as Wolfgang and easier to use than both, a little richer in colour than CG M/Seal - so I think I have found a new Summer sealant for next year.



As a Carnuba fan, I could never leave it untopped and had both my Zymol Carbon and 50/50 that turned up at the same time. I had managed a quick test in the garage showed I could not se any noticeable difference between the CG 50/50 and current wax of choice Souveran ( running low on as it is), so it really came down to the Carbon and 50/50.



So so half and half panels:

After application I could see no difference between either wax apperance wise. Both sides of the panel looked as good. The only differences where in use, 50/50 spreads easier than the Carbon, which felt almost sticky, where as the 50/50 was slightly harder to remove (both where dead easy off). The main differnce was cost, the 50/50 coming in at half the price of the Carbon here in the UK. Both applied with foam hand pads and removed woth Sonus Der Wunder buffing towels.

After this I proceded to just wax the whole car with the 50/50.

As it was over a sealant no HD Cleanse was used before the Zymol so I will repeat the tests in the summer.
 
To finish things off on the car, another product test. Cleaned the wheels, tyres and wheel arches under underside with Megs APC 10:1, applied some rim wax with a MF Towel, and removed with a clean one. Tyres dressed with Poorboys Bold and Bright.



Very happy with the results of the Rim Wax apperance wise, will see how it lasts.

Normaly use AG SRP and EGP, so this was an easier one step process.

Car looks immaculate! I agree with you on the Blackfire, it is a really underated sealant with good depth, gloss, and insane slickness. Super easy, too.
 
Good choice on the 5050. That is my goto presently (use to be souveran for a long time). I really like it and feel that it will also be more durable. I think that the zymols are great too as I have several of the Estate glaze (concours, Destiny, atlantique and vinatge). The 5050 is in this group but at a great price.



And the car looks Great!!! BF is on the list for next summer :o .
 
I am very pleased with the 50/50, again it is half the price of the Souveran.



Souveran was my go to on the car for the 18 months, but that looks like it may change now!



Re the Zymol, I used Zymol Titanium until I found this place back in 2002 and finding/realising P21s would look better for lot's less money. My revist 4 years on has left me feeling the same.
 
Wow! Your car definitely looks good. There has also been a lot of buzz about 5050 on this board lately. Sounds like a good wax from what I've seen & read. I might have to pick some up.



Personally, I've always thought P21S was a great wax for topping a sealant. On it's own though, I've never been impressed with it. I'm a carnauba guy too and I don't really like to put a sealant underneath my waxes because I like the look of a wax so much.



My personal belief is that in the end what you're really looking at is the paint. The wax or sealant (or both) is simply a lense through which you are seeing the paint. This is why surface prep and LSP choice both have importance. However, back on point, if you put a sealant under the wax you are not really seeing truly what the wax can do or the appearance it can give because you are essentially looking at the paint through two lenses at the same time (sealant & wax).
 
See what you mean - Not ever found a sealant under a wax to detract from the look, though some have muted the metallic flake before. Always find a sealant topped has its look enhanced.



I would never want to run waxes such as Souveran as a stand alone LSP despite how good they look.

That's 100% a subjective opinion. I guess you just like the look of a sealant under a wax. Personally, I don't like the look a sealant brings to the paint wax on top or not. It just looks plastic-y or lacquered to my eye and I don't like that.

I only do it during the late spring/summer/early fall when I can wash regularly and wax once a month. Winters are too cold and harsh where I live to be able to wash or wax with any regularity. So putting on a sealant which will last me several months is a big plus for me during that time.

This is how I do it as well. In the summer I really like to put the wax only over a glaze like VM, or CG EZ glaze. Winter back to my favorite sealants.
 
In terms of the Zymols, I will have to agree with Mikeyc. You won't ever see the full extent of the reflective range of your wax if you try to pair it with a sealant or another lsp IMO. You want to see which wax will render the deepest reflective result as well as being able to hold its own without the assistence of other lsps. Just my little quip.



Your detail looks really good. So is it fair to say that you preferred the 5050 to Carbon? You have nice results all the same.
 
At them moment the 50/50 was the prefered choice down to cost!



Going to Strip half a panel down later and try both waxes and see if there is any difference in apperance later.
