BLACKFIRE Total Trim & Tire Sealant Question?

The Guz

Mike
Thanks to Vega for hooking me up with the Blackfire items from the past giveaway. Part of my kit included Blackfire Total Trim & Tire Sealant.

I was having a little issues with this product over the weekend and was wondering if anyone has had this issue.

First off I had cleaned all the trim with some Meguiar's D103 APC+. I then gave the car a rinseless wash with some Meguiar's D114. I used a fresh foam applicator and read the directions on the bottle. It says to massage into the trim, etc. I tried a spot on the trim around the windows on the door. As I was massaging it into a test area, it started to gum up. It was almost like eraser shavings or adhesive residue. I then tried it on the smooth rubber trim around the front windshield and I got the same behavior. It did this too me anytime I tried to work the product onto the trim.

The only way for me to not get this type of behavior was just applying it in one direction little by little. It wasn't like anything I ever experienced with Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant.

Has anyone else had this experience? I am not sure what was going on. I also used a very small amount.

Thanks

I've experienced similar. Maybe not the same extent, but I notice there are about 10 seconds from when I start spreading it until it "flashes" that it is pretty sticky. I don't seem to get as much of this with a 2nd coat.

Was the trim in the sun or otherwise overly warm? That could maybe cause some issues.

I had the car in the garage. I will keep playing around with the product. You are right about the flash time.

I found it didn't play nice with Rubber trim. Went on streaky if you tried to rub it in to get more even coverage you got that gummy tacky stuff your talking about. I found just putting on the one quick coat and letting it self dry the streaks went away and it covered well. I love it on hard naked plastics makes them silky smooth and very easy to wash. plastics that had coatings on them (not sure if they are painted or some type of rubberized or soft touch coating) also didn't like to play well looked uneven and streaky during application but also dried perfect. its a bit finicky I am not sure I would use it on rubber but if it has good longevity on naked hard plastics it will be worth having in the arsenal.

Also have a test spot on my tonneau cover to see how it does on Vinyl so far its going amazing.

I wouldn't use it on rubber either, even though "tire" is in the name. Saw some early reviews of people who tried it on tires and it attracted a lot of dust...like it didn't dry all the way. Agree with trashman on platics it is great. Dries to a silky smooth texture (that "flash" thing I was a talking about) :)

I found that a second coat eliminated any streaks that might appear after one coat. This is usually on flat plastics (read as "not textured") that haven't been addressed for a very long time and already had quite a bit of UV fading.

I am actually going to try and work on my wife's flat black mirrors and door handles on her CRV this weekend. I'll try to post some pics through the process.
