Blackfire AIO?

Anyone have any thoughts on the value of 3M's Stoneguard clear protective film for protection against chips to the frontend. I wonder what its effects on the finish would be in the long run.

It's not sold where I live, but it seems to be highly regarded by several regulars (Brad, Don...) on the forum who use it. You might want to search the archives for Xpel or Stonegard, both of which use the 3M material...
 
on my 330i. Just the bumper and headlight protection. It's only been about 2 months, but so far I am very satisfied.
 
I use Xpel which is another brand than StoneGard. It is the same 3M film. I like it a lot as it has saved the front of my S4 from a lot of damage.

Just a by-the-way, but the correct spelling of the company name is "StonGard". No, I'm not a "spelling Nazi", but if you're searching for their website or other users' opinions online, you'll get better results from your search engine using StonGard's (admittedly odd) spelling . . . I think I wasted about a half hour one day searching Google for "StoneGuard".

BTW, their website is http://www.stongard.com. I'm placing my order sometime this week . . . sand and salt season starts here in Omaha in about month, and the Subie paint chips if you stare at it hard. :(

Is there an option to cover the entire car????



My last wash showed numerous rock chips. I was severely bummed out. The damned truck drivers down here are hauling gravel and tooling down the highway at 70+ mph. It flies off the truck and either you hit it directly or another motorist kicks it up.

I have had a 3M Scotchcal "clear bra" on my Toyota Tundra for a year now. The material is virtually invisible, except when I have wax residue against the edge. The material has done its job, in that I have no chips in the paint on the covered areas. The material has not peeled, yellowed etc. I recommend it as a good effective paint protector.



On my truck, it covers about 6-8" up on the hood, around the grill, & headlights. Fronts of the fenders and fender flares. Painted portions of the front bumper and backs of the mirrors. I do not have an Xpel or StonGard kit, but had a custom application done by a detailing shop.

I think so , it looks to me that BFWD and Zaino are close competitors , with that said it would probably be a good strategy for them...plus develop another good product...both product lines get paid very good praises. :notworthy:
 
frankly i use them both and they are definitely neck n neck in product viability... i'm an amateur photographer, so analogous to the comp between canon and nikon...

That is a great comparison , I am a photographer as well and shoot exclusive Nikon,but Canon optics and bodies are very fine too.....just a matter of opinions.I am going to compare the BF and Zaino products this summer and I know up front that I will enjoy using both. :biggrin:
 
Would you rather see a cleaner-polish/ sealant so that it can be used underneath BFWD to pre the paint or would you rather see see a cleaner-polish/sealant/wax that brings the full 'Wet Ice over Fire' look (although to a lesser degree obviously) in one step?
 
I'd personally rather see the first choice because you could use BFWD over it later. I assume by adding in wax, you wouldn't get the same bonding. Actually, to me the most important thing is the ability to sub it for a fine finishing polish. Right now, I use a competing product that has super fine abrasives and brings the gloss up over what I can get with M205.

I'd vote for the cleaner-polish/sealant route. I'm basically looking for something that will replace Klasse AIO. I like Klasse AIO because it cleans really well and will take anything as a topper but can also stand alone. I'm basically looking for something that will look like Blackfire WD but works like Klasse AIO. :wink:
