Black, Zaino maintenance

Okay, I have finally completed the "restoration" of the '99 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor I'll be using as a daily driver. The car was repainted about two months ago with a single stage black by the seller. He did a quick job of prepping it for me but after a fun week of deep cleaning the entire car I finally have it where I want it. There are pics on my gallery page so please check them out. Working the black paint was a fun learning experience.



Now on to my question. This car will be sitting outside and I'm wondering the best way to keep it looking good. I did a thorough Zaino job up through Z-8 but to keep it looking it's best daily do I use the california duster, spray lightly with Z-6 and wipe or to keep new scratches to a minimum do I just wash once or twice a week and keep hands off until then?



I want it to look it's best daily if I can. Thanks!
 
I like those P71 Crown Vics, almost as much as my 9C1 Caprice :D



For black ss paint, I'd be very careful not to mar it. I would *not* use a CCD and I'd *never* touch it with a Z6/QD approach. The only time I'd touch the paint would be when I washed it, and I'd wash it with a foamgun and a *lot* of mitts.



I know it'll be hard to watch it get, well, like an outside 24/7 car will get, but the only way to prevent marring is to never grind dirt into the paint and the only way to never do that is to wash very carefully and not touch it in between washes. Washing it frequently will help keep dirt/etc. from really bonding to the finish, and will also help ease the pain of having it outside all the time. So get a foamgun, get familiar with it, and keep that nice black paint looking nice.



Just checked it out in your gallery, and that *does* look nice. Heh heh, I see you kept the push bars on the bumper and the spotlight....I bet people get out of your way ;)
 
Well, I finished it yesterday and used the CCD on it today. No problems so far but on your advice I'll stop. I'll check into the foamgun. I have the mitts.



The P71 is a nice ride. There aren't many 9C1's around these parts so I didn't have much of a choice. The only good part about the black is that I now know what to do to get it back to square one when it needs it.
 
Well, with any luck you won't have to fix it for a good long time. There are a lot of threads on the foamgun, so that one really is worth doing the dreaded search ;)
 
Okay, ordered me a foamgun! It's funny, everyone I know thinks I'm about as obsessed as a person can get with cleaning my cars. However, when I read this site I realize I really don't know jack yet. I just read your post on washing and with that info and the foamgun I think I have what I need to keep my 993 (one of my real babies) clean and safe from defects. The P71 will be the practice car. Thanks for the help!

Correct you are but it's really a comboX2. The first is my new daily driver. The second is the family car (that the wife and son share). The third is the wife's 993 and last is my '84.

All of this for a lot less than some guys on this site have invested in just one car. However, if I use your washing tutorial as a guide when I finish with the last one it will be time to start all over again with the next one. :D

Yeah, nice Porsches *AND* nice P71s :D



I hear you about that bunch of cars being a lot of auto for the money and also about how once you finish one it's time to start on another ;)



Help jog my memory if you will- what's the color on the '84? Not Arena Red....:nixweiss Whatever it's called I think it looks great. Given the year it must be one of the first b/c Porsche colors IIRC.
