Black Magic Total Shine

Ive used Klasse cleaner (loved the wax) but was not impressed at all because it doesnt "fill" the scratches the way 3M IHG did (which i loved). How is blackfire? I have a black car with lots of tiny scratches forming around the hatch area etc... I was going to purchase the blackfire kit but its the cleaner that i want the most...

I have a black car also

I found that the best way to remove the small scratches that are on the car is using maquiar's scracth x removal. It is not that abrasive but removes small scuffs, hairline scracthes and some oxidation. Take a look at my picture listed under pixture thread, reflection of the flag. I used meguiar's scratch x to remove oxidation that was on the trunk. let me know what you think.

It is a great cleaner.

word?! I tried Scratch X a long time ago (one of my first products)... and never used it again! I put it on my entire hood... and after wiping and wiping with my MF it looked like someone rubbed baby oil on my car. Maybe I did it wrong? I will definatly try it... or is the scratch X only for small areas and I was dumb and used it on the whole hood =D

btw: im in NYC too (s.bronx)

Not on the Scratch X, I've never tried it. However, you should try something besides an all-in-one type product to remove imperfections from your finish.

What are these tiny scratches? Swirl marks? What causes them? You might not even be able to get them out with a swirl remover if they are scratches.

Not sure how you used the product, but it works for me on minor marks. I do apply with a machine and not by hand.

If you are using a machine and don't need such a strong cleaner i recommend this or the body scrub they have. It is a little stronger but gives the same effect.

do you own a detail shop in the bronx

well like theres bird poop on my car.. i use my mf and quick detailer and remove it... when it dries i see all types of small scratches in that area. Whenever i touch my car with anything tiny scratches/swirls form..damn volkswagens. :/

I dont own a detailing shop, dont have a garage... dont even have much time =D

Have you ever tried to clay the car. That might work as well.

Black is a real pain in the butt to take care of. But when you polish & wax it, nothing looks better.

a good test to see if you can get the scratch out is take your finger nail and run it over the mark, if your nail gets caught in the mark then it won't come out. but you might be able to lighten it up so it is not that ugly.

My understanding of Scratch X is that it is very similar to Meguiar's other swirl removers, it has abrasives and fillers. Sounds like the way you used it only used the fillers.

Use more pressure to apply it, go straight front-to-back on horiz. panels and up and down on vert. panels, same as washing and waxing. Use more pressure at first and then lighten up after a few strokes until you aren't using too much pressure as it dries. You'll figure out a specific technique that works for you, but that is the general idea.

Do not use a damp applicator unless the bottle says to. Dry all the way.

3M's swirlmark remover works much better than scratch-X. I did not know scratch-X could be used with a machine, i don't think i would use it with one. 3M is the way to go when buffing, polishing with a machine.

Agreed, there's much better stuff out there than scratch-x. Anyway, the BF polish has good cleaning properties, but it wont remove stuborn swirls, but will fill them in nicely. I really like the product.

alright cool... so blackfire cleaner is more similar to 3mIHG.. as a filler... Speaking of blackfire has anyone did "long term" tests on its durability yet? or is it still too new

steez:
I am a former Blackfire user. I used it on our dark green Accord and it filled in the fine scratches and swirls very well. The problem was after the 1st wash, the fine scratches and swirls reappeared.
Regarding durablity, well, I had an odd experience with our white Integra yesterday. Two weeks ago, I applied BF Polish coats #4,5, and 6. Yesterday, I washed the Integra and the whole car was sheeting as if I washed it with Dawn. Not one part of the car beaded. After drying, the car felt like it had no protection at all. I was so upset that I just Klasse'd SG x1 the Integra and it feels way better than Blackfire x6. Keep in mind that in the Integra is a 12 year old car and the condition was not very well kept by the original owner.

Guys, Backfire is suposed to sheet, it was designed that way, so just because its sheeting doesnt mean theres no protection. Terry specificaly said this.

I was fairly impressed with BFs small scratch removing abilities. It was a lot better at it than I thought it would be. My car is white so it is hard to tell when a product is working well at swirls and scratches.

Meguiar's ScratchX wasn't really meant to be used on an entire body panel, I don't think. It works really well on specific spots but if you are trying to get the whole car done then you would probably want to try some of the other products out there designed for it. If you have a buffer then you can get some serious scratches out.

Brad,

I understand it is supposed to sheet. But this sheeting was different. Like I posted earler, it sheeted as if it were washed with Dawn. I have washed the Integra when it had 3 coats many times and it never sheeted the way it did yesterday. Before, the water sort of rolled off the car, but yesterday, the water stayed on the surface (picture water on a oxided car). It's very hard to explain, you really had to be there to see it.

olivher - mentioned the same thing a few times. I consider it clinging, just sits there. Was kind of neat for a while, looked like wet paint! Found I prefer beading myself.

Someone at my work rarely waxes his four year old car. Maybe only once a year. Swirls and oxidized paint. When it rains you can definitely see the difference in sheeting on my Blackfired car and a car with no protection at all. On a non protected car the water does not sit on the hood, it seems to soak in. On a Blackfired car the water sits in a big puddle on the hood, and rolls off when you drive away, so obviously there is a difference. On the sides of a non protected vehicle the rain water just slowly slides down the side or again seems to soak into the paint. On my Blackfired vehicle it rolls right down the side.
YoSteve explains the difference between sheeting on a protected car and "wetting out" on a non-protected car in this post

I guess ill order the black fire... IM just looking for the best filler/cleaner combo... something that will LAST! And show results! thanks for the opinions =D

olivher, I assume you used the BF wash right? I had a similar experience when using the BF wash on both a Zaino'd & BF'd car. It really reminded me of the time I Dawn-washed my car a long time ago. I also tried washing a fresh coat of BF with Pinnacle BS and although it still had a sheeting tendency, it didn't form 'pools of water' the way the BF wash did. I've heard rumors that the BF wash was very alkaline. Hmmmm.....
