Black Magic Tire Gel Dressing

I have some from like 3 years ago, it was the thickest, nastiest oily crap I've seen, it would never look even no matter what, and attracted dirt like mad. Good luck cleaning it off the tires.

Oh yeah forgot to mention the Black Magic Titanium tire wet gel or whatever they're marketing it as now is horrible stuff. almost impossible to remove and turns into greasy mud in short order.

I have to agree with qwertydude on the Black Magic Titanium wet get Its thick like syrup and very difficult to get into the ridges in my sidewall pattern. I had dab at it all the way around the tire. This made it too thick so I wiped off the excess with a terry towel (which it ruined) and the tires looked good.

The next day I cut grass pretty far from the truck but I noticed grass clippings (mulching mower) all over the tire. I got a hose and shot the clippings off with some effort (tires were somewhat sticky).

Then after a few trips I noticed the product slung onto my paint. :furious:

I also tried it on my rear bumper plastic parts and it ran onto the chrome.:angry

In the trash it went.

as for tire gels, i prefer the water based ones. if you're going to try one, get the AA tire shine gel, it can be found just about anywhere and is around $6 a bottle which will last forever...

p.s. as i mentioned before, i like to use a leaf blower afterwards to help blowout any leftover dressing out of the tread, and it also helps aid in drying as well...

Thanks guys. I had this stuff on my tires for about a month now, and it seem to be gone. Didnt leave browning which is good. So from reading, I will assume this is not water-based.

Havent troed cleaning the tires yet, but it seem theres no dressing left on the tires.

It held up pretty well, 2 weeks gloss, 1 week matte, and now its gone. Any recommendations on ones that last about the same that is water-based?

The Black Magic Titanium Matte is water based and is an extremely good product. It does not have any of the properties of any gel. It is durable and it dries completely so that it will not hold dust etc. It has a "new tire" appearance.

The reason I havent tried Black Magic Matte is because its a spray. Can you apply it with an applicator or u have to spray it on. Thats the only reason I use gel. Comments =)

I spray Black Magic Matte onto a sponge and spread it over the tire. I know that there is a suggestion you have to spray it on directly but I don't and it works great.

The one thing (other than the appearance) that I like is that it goes on thin and dries. I am applying it to Michelins and it works fine on them. I too was a gel user but not anymore. I actually think this stuff outlasts the gels.

Do a search; there are other threads on this board about this stuff.

i'm personally a user of the black magic tire shine gel and i love it. i apply it using a foam block i purchased off of detailersdomain, and i find it works great. so far the one bottle i've bought has lasted me over 20 applications and maybe 1/3 still left. the foam app block makes it much easier to apply, spread, and wipe around ensuring a nice even application that doesn't "sling" off when the car is driven. my favorite two things are the fact it doesn't sling even if driven directly after use (which of course has to do with how i apply it), and it lasts weeks on end.

to hard core tire shine users let me give you a heads up, when used often (was washing and then dressing my 2004 S2000 two to three times a week) this product can start to built up quite a bit. if you find this happening to you, simply use your favorite tire cleaner/APC and agitate with a stiff brush. This helps to even out the build up, and ends up giving a really awesome matte finish that lasts for weeks.

if you don't like this product, or have had bad results, be careful how you applied it as it makes all the difference. find the tire shine that bests fits your needs (how it's applied, the matte vs shiney look, durability, cost, etc) and stick with it.

i've had the worst luck with black magic, it always has slung for me no matter how I applied it. It sucks to try and clean off and seems to be a generally bad product imho.

I have not however tried the black magic matte finish stuff yet....maybe when I am at walmart next i'll pick it up with some other stuff ;)

Poor Boy's Bold n Bright. Water based. Goes on easy, looks good, but after a rain pretty much need to reapply. Gives a nice matte look.

I use that Matte Stuff. I have yet to experience sling. I apply mine by a staining brush and paint it on. I think dap it alittle to get the excess I applied off.

I've become partial to the Black Magic Tire Wet after finding it in the forgotten bin in the back of my supplies. Yes its petrolium based but goes on easy, no sling and leaves a nice matte appearance. Two applications give it a nice gloss if thats your bag. Have used Wolfgang, Poorboys, etc but this is my new go-to. Just spray on a foam applicator and wipe on. Dries quickly. Shows that not everything has to be a boutique product to work well. ;)
