I've been dying to detail a black car ever since I got my PC and this 4th of July weekend I finally got my chance. My friend's 2000 Lexus GS300...immaculate shape but swirled and cobwebbed like no other. I love the lines of this car!

My usual arsenal of attack is mostly Meguiars products but for this one I wanted to try something else. I finally got hold of some Klasse AIO/SG last week....SG is such a PITA to work with especially if you don't use the WOWO method but pays off in the end...eye candy!!

Cliff Notes:

Gold Class wash (I don't find any reason to Dawn wash anymore)

Spot clay with Magic Clay

3MFCRC on several scratches (wool pad on 5)

Hi-Temps Light Cut SMR (yellow pad on 6, plenty of very slow passes)

AIO (white pad on 4.5)

SG x 2 (first applied with finishing pad on 2.5, second with WOWO method)

SIG on windows

Endurance gel on tires

AIO on wheels

Armor All on wheel wells

gonna top with S100 after the SG has cured

Thanks for the compliments...it was very hard work but so much to stare at in the end. I want a black car now!

LWR - SG was such a pain to take off. I knew about the highly recommended WOWO method but I wanted to try applying it via PC (damp finishing pad) first hand to see if it distributed it thin and evenly. I found it a big waste of time. It was so hard to buff after it quicky dried. For the 2nd coat of SG I tried the WOWO and voila...so easy to work with. I had lots of haze (some still remains)but from other people's experiences with it they said it's just normal because the SG hasn't fully cured. I'm planning to top it with S100 tomorrow.

ben54 - I believe it is a single stage paint. The paint seems to be very hard though because I didn't get a lot of paint transfer.

LWR - so topping it with caranuba will take away ALL the hazing from Klasse? If that's so I'm gonna skip washing it before topping with S100.

Works for me and we have two black Lexi in the family.I use Pinnacle,Swissol and P21S,so I guess S100 should do it too.I buff off as much as I can, sometimes with a spray of water or a QD and MF towels but there's always some left. Then I use my carnauba and buff off almost straight away.

Hope it works OK for you too.Just try a little somewhere.

BEAUTIFUL WORK!!, I hear ya about a dark car, just got a silver TL from a black s-10, the silver always looks clean but doesn't come close to the way the black truck did when waxed..

Why don't you build up to 5 layers of SG? 2 layers is just scratching the surface. Then, if you still want to, put on your S100.

Nice job on the Lexus!!!

beastie - I agree...5 layers is nice but I really want to see the effect S100 will give right now. Maybe in the future.
