well a good customer called me to do his girlfriends envoy he also wanted his trailer detailed along with his harley. his harleys paint is called black demin i do believe which he says the dealership told him not to polish or enhance it in any way and that a good windex wipedown is all he should do. i have a hard time believing that unless this is some sort of scratch resistant paint.

anyhow he really only wanted a one step on his girls envoy but i polished the hood anyhow to show him what hes missing out on. the rest of the vehicle got vm via black lc pad.

right side i attempted vm aio and prime nothing doing, all i was anticipating doing was oxidation streak removal. how is this paint harder to work on than a boat is it that hard?perfection wasnt the goal or quote on this detail but this stuff really sucks to work on.

rotary and pi3000 wasnt what i had in mind.

this is of one side that came out really good, as stated before im not done and wish i was. i actually removed alot of hazing caused by a few non abrassive products i used with nattys blue. weird eh?

thats a sweet pickup aint it fellers.

On the trailer what did you do to clean the sides?

I did a horse trailer recently and it was a pain...I suggest cleaning it *really* good. Then get a dedicated marine or rv polish (oxidation remover) and going at it. This method will be the most effective I think. (Hi-Temp EC also worked for me)

thanks josh, the hi temp products i use are the only things i didnt try. i washed with onr, and went straight to it with multiple different cleaner/polishes. aio prime vm and all were basically unable to be removed. i also tried fp2 and ip with literally no difference. i guess im going to have to compound it even though i wasnt planning on it. i just cant believe it takes a compound to remove that oxidized crap and those chalky white streaks. i will never do a trailer again lol.

oh and that one pic where its really smeared was cleaned with onr, and a citrus degreaser some guy that scracthed my wheels left me. oh and when i tried to remove the aio style products with 425 only made everything very blurry and hazed. it looked like i was ready for cleanup and really it put me back into a HUGE pickle.

Well I hope everything works out for you if you try the Hi-Temp products. Trailers are really a pain!! I have since ordered RV products for when I do trailers and campers and they have helped alot. Good luck, looking forward to hearing if it goes any better.

thanks again josh im going with hi temp all the way next time and hope it works. i was by no means trying to spend all day polishing this thing which is why i didnt charge enough but hes a good guy and understands it needs more. i didnt leave enough hours of work to do the whole thing. why do you suppose the nb removed the haze from the prime? it just attatched itselt i presume.? strangest damn thing too, after letting both vm and prime sit for 30 minutes it felt as if they werent even on the surface more bonded to it if you will, yet hazy as all hell.

I hate PC backing plates. GRRR!!! :(

yeah my initial bp would all of a sudden release my pad and sling it while polishing lol. that would make paint look real nice wouldnt it. its like i stumbled onto a new way or wetsanding. im still going to use this one though until the entire velcro comes off.

I am not sure what happened with the VM, it could very well be it just sat on the surface and hazed even after trying to remove. I planned on using M21 on the trailer I did, but unfortunately it also did the same thing you are describing so I had to go with Aquawax instead.

you think i should just use a wool pad on this thing? i dont have a ptg so i was pretty worried about harsh polishing but its obvious this is in need of serious aggression. really didnt want to mess with this thing for so long but maybe ill try wool tommorow

Excellent work on the Envoy, noticable improvement on the trailer. :)

Have you tried the 6" backing plate from excel detail? It appears to be indestructible. ;)

no scott to be honest ive only had 2 backing plates well three if you count my 4 inch spotter, since ive known how to polish which if you dig back through my posts really hasnt been all that long. i think i just really overworked the swirlbuster pad because that was due to heat. how it got that hot is beyond me.

i did however find a good solution for the trailer as far as the chalky streaks were concerned and that was malcos water spot remover, worked well by hand or machine. but as ive said i was really only planning on going over that dang thing once with a chem cleaner i figured that would do lmao man i got alot to learn.

oh and i have definitely been considering using excels products, i started with lc and got use to em is the only thing and dont want to order a hundred dollars worth of pads and backing plates if theres another learning curve. how do lc compare to others as far as user friendlyness?
