Black Dashboard + Duct Tape Residue + Souther California sun = Help!

I just bought a bmw and had it shipped from Southern California to Mass. All in all it's in pretty good rust free shape. Unfortunately the PO decided it was a good idea to protect the black dashboard from the desert sun by duct taping the carpet dashcover to the dash!

I took the carpet off and now I have lots of baked on duct tape residue. Before I try anything I wanted to solicit opinons from the experts. (as I am a total newbie)

Thanks in advance!

If it is baked on you might be able to remove most of it with your finger, as the adhesive might have dried out. I usually have to break out the mineral spirits to remove the left over glue.

Soak a corner of a terry cotton towel and dab just on the glue and you might have to let it dwell for a few seconds and gently wipe away. Go at it slowly and wipe off mineral spirits often to check for any damage. Never had a problem but you never know. Clean off and dress.
