Black Benz

I'll figure it out....
I actually started on this car last Fri. I thought i could manage to
work it out with OCP, some orange LC pads, and some white LC pads.
Well it turned out pretty good under the shop lights, but when I pulled
it out in the sun, it looked like I didn't even make a dent. The owner
allowed me to take the car home for this past Sun to work on.
Sorry the after pics aren't better, but I was trying to finish the job,and
lost the sun for the most part.

FK1 Decon
Clayed horizontal sections
Edge green wool pad
Powergloss x2 @ 1200 rpms
FPII x2 @1200 rpms
Megs maroon pad
Megs yellow pad
LC yellow pad
FK1 machine glaze by PC
FK1 218 by PC
FK1 Pink Wax by PC
AIO on the wheels
BnB on the Tires
ProPolish on the glass and chromed pieces
PWC on the chromed pieces
Mr Clean Magic Eraser on the door handles
TR on the moldings

This is how the hood looked when it came to me. The rest of the
car was in similar condition.

After. At this pont, I was totally working in the sun. I could see that
I was making progress, but I had to continually spray down the panels
with water, S&W, and FI to clean them and keep them cool. But pretty
soon, the spritzes turneed to steam and I had figure out something. This
is with Powergloss x2 and the Megs maroon pad. At this point I had not
used the FPII yet.

After. Believe it or not, it came out real bad when I took it out in the sun
again. It was getting hot, so I alternated buffing the car inside, and outside
to try and keep the panels cooler.

This pic is of the car. The green Edge wool pad threw up so
much wool, that i had to do a complete rinse down and wash.

These last 2 pics, i attmepted to show how reflective the finish was
in the dark, but they did not come out so good. Hopefully you get the
idea.

Quick notes: I did learn that Powergloss and FPII can be used in
sunlight, but discretion is very key. I worked small areas, and continued to
check the temp of the paint by hand. Keepin the heat down on black paint
is really something, especially when you have to work in the sun. But now that I've given it a try, I think this will be my prefered approach from
now on.

Next, I think i am going to be sticking with 6.5 pads from now
on. After using the LC 7' pads for some time, I still haven't got a good
grasp on them. The yellow 6.5 LC pad IMO, is more agressive than
the Megs maroon pad.

Finally, I have to say that Pink Wax really rocks. I've used it before
on quite a few cars, and have never been disappointed with the look.
But this is the first time I've ever used it on a black car. Putting on the
glaze and topping with 218 made the paint look real good. But after
one coat of Pink Wax, the appearance just stepped up to another
level all together.

Started this badboy at about 8am, and ended at around 7pm.

WOW.. great work.
I'm sure the owner was glad he let you take it home to work on.
How long it it take you?
