I was shopping at Target the other day and I saw the Black and Decker Scum Buster on display. I looked over the package and noticed it came with two scrubbers that looked ideal for carpet and it spins at 120-180 rpm, definitely faster than by hand alone. It is also a rechargable unit, with an average 30 minute battery life (addition batteries are availabe so you can have a few charged and ready if needed). I paid around $35 for it.
The actual unit is about a foot long or so and reasonably light for portable use. It comes with several different heads, two with bristles, 4 or 5 with differing foam style pads (varying in roughness), what looks to be an automotive bug pad and some weird looking thing that almost looks like a massager (it is for raising the nap on deep pile carpeting). The heads twist on and off so you can change them quickly. You also get a bottle of concentrated carpet shampoo.
I tried it today on some floor mats and my son used it on a couple spills on the rear carpet of an S600. We used my Magnum Upholstry shampoo, by the way. Sprayed on the shampoo, then went to work, first up and down the length, the across, wiped the mats down with a clean cloth and vacuumed. Worked real nice! A lot less effort, and you can bear down on the unit and it still turns quickly. We snapped on the smaller carpet brush for the interior stains, and again, it quickly scrubbed them clean.
So far, so good. Real low price, lots of attachments and decent battery life, although I'll probably buy some extras so I have them on days when I have a lot of details. I'll keep y'all posted as I continue to test it on a variety of surfaces and stains.
