Black 03' Z06 Corvette (Nasty Swirls !!!!)

This is a 2003 Z06 Corvette which was my project for the last 2 days. This car was sent to a "detailer" before I started at this job to remove the acid rain damage on the top surfaces. All the top surfaces were wetsanded to remove the acid rain (which they did), but did a horrible jog compounding out the finish. I wish it hadn't been raining here for the past 10 days or I would have brought it out in the sun to show how bad the swirls really were. As you can see from the pictures the swirls were absolutely rediculous and I am amazed that someone could let the car go out the door looking the way it did.

The car was clean so I didn't bother washing it. I wiped it down with some QD and went to town. If it ever stops raining here I will bring it outside and do a good cleaning behind the wheels.

My process:

Compounded complete exterior with 3M rubbing compound by rotary w/ cutting pad

Buffed complete exterior with IP w/ polishing pad.

Buffed complete exterior with Optimum polish x2 with finishing pad

Hand application of AIO

Hand application of RMG

Hand application of EX

Hand application of Souveran

Here are the before pic's

Damn......

Do some detailers just not have any pride in their work? That is one of the most disgustingly inept polishing jobs I have ever seen. Truly outstanding work bringing back the paint the way you did, looks incredibly deep, rich and wet!

Thank you very much! It absolutely just boggles my mind that someone can actually make money doing a job like this to a car. When the sun comes out here some day I'll have to take some pictures for the website, so I will take some good sun shots and post them up.

Wait until you see my project for Monday! It's a 360 Modena Spyder that needs lots of attention to say the least.

Stay tuned.....

That seems like a job like that would be the kiss of death for a detailer, unreal. Superb transformation to say the least! So do you own the dealership, or just od work for them? If you dont mind me asking, how much do you charge for a job like that? Wow, 7 step exterior.....

Hmmmm...so someone asked the dealer to take out the waterspots but didn't notice all those rotary holograms afterwards?!?!

Great transformation, I love that car, just needs to be a lowered an inch or two :)

I spy a red on red ZR-1 in that pict! :D

That black car looked HOT, why'd you even mess with it? ;) Seriously, great turn-around. I can't believe someone would return a car to someone in that condition. I think those holograms were bad enough that they could be seen from space!

I recently started working for this dealership full time. I have done detailing for them in the past and decided to come work for them full time doing detailing as well as many other things such as selling, maintaining the website, taking pictures of the cars for the website, doing E-bay auctions, marketing, etc..

I don't get paid per detail job. They give me a set salary including a dealer plate and a demo vehicle. I really enjoy it there because when I'm caught up on all my work I just mess around detailing the cars and keeping the cars in order. Most of the time the cars are not that bad, but this one definitely was!

No, the dealership that I'm working for now just got the car in on trade and brought it to another detailer (because I wasn't working there yet) to get the acid rain damage fixed on all the top surfaces. They brought the car back looking like a damn hologram, so of course It was my job to correct the work of a hack.

Wow, Im not sure what your salary is but it sounds like oyu have my dream job! Do you sell more than just exotics? Or do you get a demo car being something like the Z06's Vipers, etc? Congrats on landing that job, I owuld leave my IT job for something like that in a heart beat!!!! Im sure your quality of work went a long way to your new position, you do very good work.

To be honest, it really is my dream job. I am 26 years old and have been detailing since I was 15. I opened up my own detail shop when I was 18 after graduating high school and also had another shop a few towns away. Between the taxes, having no health insurance and a bad back I got a job in the IT field working for Boston University with my father and detailed on the side out of my garage. After working for BU for a little while I realized my love was with cars and got a job for a local Ford dealership as a salesman. The Ford dealership just wasn't for me.

I decided to come work for this place full time because it is a great place and I know the owner very well and my friend is the general sales manager. They needed someone good to fill in the gaps and thought I would be the right man for the job because I have experience in sales, marketing, website design and of course detailing.

They offered me a pretty decent salary to start and gave me an Eddie Bauer Expedition to drive for the time being. Eventually when I get into the selling part of it a little more I will be able to drive whatever I want for the most part including the exotics which I can't wait for!! I get to drive all the cars right now, but at night I take home my demo.

Most of the cars we sell are exotics or high line cars and have very good luck with Corvettes as well. We specialize in low mile 1 owner cars.

I could understand some minor hazing, I'm guilty of missing it on occasion because the lighting conditions changed but you don't need good lighting to see how horrible those swirls were.

I can't believe how hacked that was!

Great turnaround! You deserve all the compensation you received and more.

With most cars, I generally put 2 to 3 applications of compound/polish/wax, is necessary for 7 steps? It almost seems like it would not layer properly??
