Bike Chrome

Alright so I have a BMX bike I know its not exactly the kind of bike everyone is thinking of when they look at this thread but since it doesnt get a lot of action and this is a question I have been wondering about here goes. I have an all chrome bike and it has gotten a little ruf over the winter with some light surface rust and an overall crummy looking. I know Im going to use some chrome polish to try to clean off most of the rust and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what I could use to kind of seal it against the moister while its in storage? I was thinking maybe a wax or a wheel sealent but any other ideas or what is the best way would be apricited. THanks for your help

For cleaning the light rust off quickly I would use some 0000 steel wool it is very non- abrasive. Then a good chrome polish and you could followup with a sealant for protection. However once you heat the bike up the EX will come off. If its for storage purpose onlty then you should be OK

Jey thanks for the replies, I was planing on using some really fine sandpaper to get some of the stubborn stuff off but I might try the steal wool. What do you mean by the bike heating up? I could imagine a bike heating up to anything hotter then what a car heats up at?

I was speaking of the chrome exhaust pipes and or motor parts. The frame or wheels would not be effected by that. Sorry I should have stated that to start with.

Skip the sandpaper. The 0000 steel wool will work great when used with a chrome polish. Don't rub hard and just let the steel wool and the chemical do the work. I did this on the chrome of an old motorcycle that had been in a shed for 6+ years and the chrome cleaned up great with no scratches or marring.

Maybe I'm missing it, but you might want to toss out my example. when you said BMX bike, I was thinking of a pedal-powered bike, not a motorcycle. I guess I am a little lost????? :dunno

Hey Jared:
I don't think you missed a thing. He is talking about a pedal powered bike. UPP should do a great job on it.
My reference to a motorcycle was strictly about cleaning the chrome with 0000 steel wool and chrome polish. Worked good for me.:)
