Big Ol' Deep Scratches

Any DIY solution to fixing theses DEEP scratches before I go out and spend $270 on a new pair of side skirts? I hit one of those landscape rocks yesterday making a right turn. Some scratches took it down to the bare plastic and some cut into some of the paint.

Would something like this process work:

- Compound polish with PC/yellow pad (to remove the "minor" scratches)

- Touch-up paint in scratches

- Wetsand (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 grits, progressively)

- Polish again with PC

You can certainly make them look better, but I doubt you'll be able to make them look new again without repainting.

Now, if you want to try touchup, it may certainly work. Luckily, it's not in a place where light is going to hit it where the touchup will look extremely noticeable.

What compound are you going to use? I'd start with an orange pad first, or if you have, a PFW. Depending on product also.

Have 'em repaired/painted and the stone chip protector replaced (of course).

That's an easy repair for most shops and should be $200-$300 less the protector.

If OEM parts $270 then prep/paint is another $200 or so.

$270 comes painted from the factory.

Wow, didn't expect it to cost that much to get it repaired by a body shop... was guessing more like $150 or so.

Maaco would do what your asking...

however their paint jobs leave ALOT to be desired, fish eyes, runs, drips, etc. Good body work will cost you and is well worth the money.
