best products for metal flakes?

Ok, so i got a brand new, 07 scion tc about 3-4 weeks ago. Very nice car, and i am very glad to have it. This is my fist car, but ive washed my parents cars in the past, but just the basic wash.

Now that i have my new car, and it is shiney fresh, i want to keep it that way. The color is "Flint Mica", a dark charcol color with metal flakes that really make the color look nice. What im looking for are products that will make the flakes really pop.

Right now i have:

some armorall car wash and turtlewax zipwax carwash(i use armorall)

some megs liquid car wax.

an orbital buffer

a wash mitt that feels real soft to the touch. possibly wool or microfiber?

an "absorber" to dry the car.

I made a deal with my dad that if he payed for all the products i needed, i would buy what would work great, and keep my car, and his truck, both maintained and looking good. his truck is a similar color btw...

So, what i think i need is some kind of clay, a nice wax(paste probably), a quick detailer(for in between jobs and as a clay lube), possibly a new carwash, and a few microfiber towels.

So if anyone can reccomend prodects that would work great, im all ears. I dont mind working long and hard detailing my car either. Ill probably just pick up whatever i need from autozone.

It looks like you're working over the counter from AutoZone; so my recommendations will be bases largely on such.

Meg's NXT Wash

Meg's or Mother's Claybar kit (They both include reasonable qd's; the Mothers's is slightly better)

Stay away from cheap (Viking and no-name wal-whore) MF.

WalMart usually has some nice lambswool mitts. You have to pick through and get a good one.

I hope you have an Oreiley's; or look back on the body shop supply shelves at the top in Advance/AutoZone/Oreiley's etc.... Most of them stock the Meg's professional line (Creme colored bottles) go with the #26 yellow wax or #21 Sealant.

If you're even more lucky to have a PepBoys around; you can likely find the Mother's Reflections line. Any of it is great for the money.

If you have a Harley shop nearby you could go with S100 as a wax.

If you're willing to purchase online your product options are endless; as will be the recommendations.

would it be cheaper to go the online route?

oh, and using google maps, there is an o'reileys right next to the autozone(less than 5 mins away) and a pep boys not tooo far out.

Would o'rieleys be better than autozone? pep boys better than both?

actually, the green viking quick detailing plush dual sided mf towel sold at k-mart is right on par with the boutique mf's, and i use them quite frequently. i'm assuming your referring to the 3pk bundle (which i'm sure you are as autozone doesn't carry the above formentioned one)...

a Carnuaba Paste will refract light better, make the flakes seem to rise to the surface.

It is due to the way the carbon molecules are arranged.

FK Pink Wax is a good easy wax for beginners.....

alright, just got back from o'reileys, and heres what i got:

A package of clay, a microfiber towel, quick detailer, and a 4oz sample of cleaner wax. all in one box for ~20$. I then picked up some vinyl, rubber and plastic dressing for like 5-6$$. All meguires btw. Not a bad price.

I would of liked to get some nicer wax, i wanted the megs gold class carnuba wax, but it was like 10.99, and i was pushing the 25$ limit on my dads credit card. it alltogether was 30 dollars and some change.

Don't bother with the Meg's GC wax. It has near-zip durability.

Shoot for the #26 Meg's or any Mother's wax. You really can't go wrong with their Calif. Gold Cleaner Wax PASTE. You can get it darn near anywhere.

Did he limit you to $25?

Just curious... Oreiley's around here almost ALWAYS has liquid #26. Most guys report PepBoys to have the Mother's Reflections line as well. FWIW; you may want to call down there before you go.

Yeah, when i called him and asked him how much i should be spending, he said around 25$. It was his credit card, so i said ok. (even though i spend 30$)

And as for wax, all i can remember is they had turtle wax ice, megs gold class paste, megs cleaner wax, some kind of mothers paste, some kind of turtle wax, nxt wax, and mabey a few others i dont remember.

Oh, and here are what i have right now for waxes. tell me which one to use.

Cleaner Wax A1216 Product Information

Quik Wax® A1616 Product Information

Turtle Wax - Super Hard Shell (the paste, not liquid)

These are waxes that my cheap parents have bought, and not my choices. I think the megs liquid would be the best, correct?

Just use the Meg's Cleaner wax; its not terrible. Follow with the QW to fill in anything you missed and after washing. You'll be good.

Jake, up this way Advance Auto is usually cheaper than Autozone and then Pepboys is the most expensive. As other members have said you can't go wrong with the Reflections line from Mothers which Pepboys has. I only found the wax (sealant) there, I had to order the rest online but it was worth it. All the products are outstanding and are a bargain. Also look into the Duragloss line if you have a Carquest near you.

I have an '07 Lexus IS350 and use pinnacle and p21s paintwork cleansing lotion followed by liquid souveran, s100 or pinnacle sig. series II. Really like the liquid souveran on silver.
