Best products for detailing a Bronzemist Grand Prix

hey guys, i've been reading around on this site for a while and im upset that i did not find it sooner. after reading stuff on this site i realized how wrong i was at detailing my own cars.

i have a 1999 grand prix (bronzemist) and i've noticed that this color it hard to get a deep, dark wet look to it. i was wondering which products would be best for my needs and car color (minor scratches, kind of dull, and lacking depth and reflectivity)

Getting depth is all about perfecting the paint. I've got a black '97 GTP and so far I've had great success with Menerna finishing polishes. That will take out the dullness and give you razor-sharp reflections. Toss on a coat of Chemical Guys' acrylic glaze and Meguiars #26, and you'll see a big improvement in darkness and wetness. Keep in mind that 90% of the success is in the prep - claying and polishing.

This is a similar combo on mine (FPII, Acrylic Glaze, 50/50 Paste):

i have clayed the bar once already but that was a little over six months ago so i'll be doing that again. i have never used any type of polish on any car and do no have a PC. so i have no idea of how to apply it by hand. would the new zaino products give me the desired result? (clear seal and all in one)

Highly doubtful - Zaino is one of the most prep-dependant products out there as it is very optically clear and contains no fillers. You are really going to either need to get a PC or a professional to polish your car before applying Zaino.

Consider putting a post up in the Regional Forums section asking for a local Autopian - if you clay and washed the car yourself first, you could probably get a 2-step swirl-free polishing for 80-100 dollars.

so your saying that it would be pointless to try to get a good finish on my own by hand? i will probably be getting a PC sooner or later, but its not in the poor college boy budget right now. i would just like to know which products and procedure would be best for me right now

This is NXT topped with Aquawax on my 87 Medium Brown Metallic Corvette:

That photo was taken on a nice day, and before I used Duragloss as my sealant. I used NXT Paste to use it up.

For polishes, I now use Meguiar's 8x polishes(Ex - 80, 83, 84) and for my sealant I use Duragloss 105(First time with PBA) and Duragloss Aquawax. As far as polishes, test some out, I'd say check out Menzerna or if going Over The Counter, Meguiar's. A PC is a must to do cars with hard clears, like Vettes or say, Audis. I don't know much about Pontiac's paint hardness, but I doubt it's harder.

My parents had a Bronzemist Chevrolet Malibu LS on lease and it drove me to love metallic brown.

Post up a pic of your GP!

I strongly recommend the Optimum line of polishes because they're so newbie friendly and most importantly DONT DUST!

Optimum Poliseal topped with Aquawax is my go to for now, although I have some Zaino CS/AIO on the way to try out.
