Hey guys, i dont really have the money yet for a full line of professional products, so im asking you guys, the pros, what the best OTC products there are to use. Right now i use mainly Mothers and/or Meguiars, are there any lines in those brands that are better than the others?

Give me your thoughts on which brand and line of product you personally think is the best OTC product out there until i have funds enough for an actual professional line of products.

Thanks

Zach

You can get Duragloss OTC in the States no? They make a few good things. I know up here you can get a few of Megs Mirror Glaze line OTC, perhaps it's the same for you?

duragloss (DG) makes some great products, do a search and you'll find plenty of info. their products can be found at your local carquest...

Going to the local autobody/paint supply store can greatly expand your notion of "OTC" ;)

Yep, Accumulator is right here! If you can get to a local auto body/paint supply store, you can find most of them will be a 3M/Meguiar's distributor in which you can purchase just about anything that those two companies have to offer. Duragloss is another great manufacturer to purchase detailing products from.

With any of these companies, you can definitely do full details on your vehicle with the right equipment. Good luck!

And mine have ProWax, Presta, and DuraGloss too :D Some of the generic/house brands can be OK for some things too, I recently got a gallon of "whitewall cleaner" for next to nothing and it's a good APC concentrate for stuff like tires and other rubber items.

I like Duragloss and Meguiars

Duragloss I like 501 for cleaning and nice protection

DG 111 has a great wet look and good durability

Meguiars I have yet to use their polishes but I hear great things and I will be trying very soon

I do like #40, Quick Interior Detailer, NXT 2.0 wax, NXT tire cleaner, Stain remover, Meg smooth clay kit (Walmart for $15 comes with a nice MF towel, 2 bars of clay and quick detailer), Ultimate Quick detailer (I know use M135 got it cheaper this way) and Plast X.

The first thing that came to mind was Duragloss. For polishing, Meguiars makes some great polishes. These polishes will be found at paint/autobody stores. Also, 3M makes some decent products. As far as quick detailer, Meguiars Ultimate Detail is very nice. Mothers clay bar is good as well.

Meguiars / 3M - for polishes, compounds, wax (M16 & 26), APC+, car wash and interior products.

Duragloss - for sealants, leather and vinyl protection, car wash, APC and pretty much every product they make except their version of a paste wax (PITA to use).

ok, i generally use westleys bleche white for a tire cleaner....is that an ok product or does it have downsides? I use megs gold class wash with a lambswool mitt, NXT tech wax, megs endurance tire shine (sometimes), megs quick interier detailer, i was using a megs tire cheaner but dont remember what it was, i cant remember everything i use, i know i have access to a meguiars tan "professional" line at our local Oreillys auto parts, is that the meguiars line you spoke of?

Also, have an older 10" random orbital buffer but i generally just apply my wax and stuff by hand, i am lookin into getting a PC 7424 or UDM, any thoughts to which one is better? I noticed my cvehicles have more swirl marks etc. than i like and want to get rid of em!

you can't go wrong with either. the UDM has more power between the two, and the PC is very solid and a workhorse...

Can't really get Duraglass where I'm at.

I suggest a few meguiars products. NXT 2.0, Ultimate Quik Detailer, ScratchX.

Not a meg's product, but Stoner's Invisible Glass is pretty good!

Come on guys!

Mothers Cali Gold Car Wash, excellent stuff. Really lubie and good cleaning power IMO, better then any of the Megs offering.

FX SYN wax, a mild cleaner sealant looks great and lasts a couple of months.

Reflections and Top Coat, a great combo on dark surfaces, again fairly durable. Very easy to work with and goes on and off like a dream.

FX Tire spray, looks awesome!

As far as cleaner waxes go, the Zymol liquid one you can get at most stores is pretty good looking acutally!

Megs. Deep crystal wash is excellent.

Megs. Smooth Clay is nice mild clay bar that does the job for most paint surfaces.

Some of Megs. professional line of glazes and polishes can be found at your Ace and True Value hardstores most of the time or most auto paint supply dealer.

Waxes: Collinite 476 and 845 can both be found at Harbor Frieght Tools store (Be my #1 choice for OTC waxes). Otherwise Mothers California Pure Carnuba wax gives a great look though doesn't last very long. Megs NXT 2.0 is solid also though doesn't last very long either. Also Harley Davidson stores sell a wax (forgot the name, someone will chime in) that supposely just repackaged P21S Concours wax for like half the price (around $15). Megs. professional line #26 Yellow wax is also usually available at the same places that sell there other professional products.

Wheel cleaner: Pretty much most the major brands to a great job. So many out there its hard to just say one or a few. I'd say if what your using is doing the job just fine then stick with it.

Interior: If you got leather Lexol makes an excellent leather cleaner and conditioner for OTC. Also I've seen Zymol's leather cleaner and conditioner in a few stores. Protection for the rest of your car (ie:dash and interior trim) I really like Aerospace 303 which can be found at most ACE, True Value, and many boat stores. Also Lexol makes a decent Vinyl Protector.

P.S.: There is many products out there available only through the internet that won't break the bank and give you top notch results.

Well, that one might be debatable  Only Meg's shampoos I find acceptable are #62 and #00 (and even those don't compare to Griot's :D but they're OK for wheelwells and undercarriages).

Is it better than the #62 and #00? Those are about the only OTC shampoos other than DuraGloss that I ever recommend but I can't remember trying the Mother's.

I *can* imagine the Mother's being comparable to Meg's Gold Class, but the latter is often available *very* cheap.
