Bentley, just dropped in...

To the casual observer this car might be the ultra luxury car, and rightly so. But after spending all day detailing it I might have second thoughts on what do do with $235,000. For starters it has SHAG carpeting. what's up with that? It handles like a truck, and is heavier than one I suspect. The paint does not impress me for a car that expensive. But one thing it does do when you drive it. it gets everyone's attention. Gary

Very nice! I've done a couple Arnages and the older Continental GT...which, btw, has fabulous paint!

By shag, don't you mean sheepskin?

Hmm..I thought it was agreed that Bentley has the finest, orange peel free paint available today, like the best of the best. It really isn't too impressive?

I'm sure thats the reason people buy it, for the attention.

Gary:

I noticed your from Chicago and detail some pretty high-end cars. Do you know a man named Ron Susser? I work with his brother and he was showing me his bro's website some incredible cars and hes from Chicago.

I dunno, the attention-factor is one big reason why I never bought a Bentley. IMO it's the exact *wrong* reason to buy a car like that.

Yeah, that surprises me too, and I've looked at a few of 'em. The paint quality of the ones I looked at were a big reason why I was interested in them. I wonder if they're starting to slip, but that looks like an '02 or '03, though it's hard to tell

Oh, and heh heh, yeah, that *IS* sheepskin, not "shag" ;) High quality sheepskin too. I just love the feel of that stuff...

Oh#2, and this year's model supposedly handles a lot better.

Gee, don't *I* sound like the Bentley apologist tonight! It's still one of the few hand-finished, "old school" cars available, not high-tech/electro-whiz-bang. I wouldn't be caught dead in its competition (stuff like the Maybach or the new Rolls Royce).

I do a couple (B-ball players), and I am quite unimpressed.

I'm about 3 miles from a Bentley Dealer...

The newer cars have 'better' paint, but, for that money, I'd expect more.

Jim

This is the paint quality on the 1999 Continental GT I used to detail before he sold it and bought an '04 Phantom.

His Rolls has noticable orange peel. :(

I can't believe it has come to this here. Trash talking a Ultra-Luxo car. I'm hanging my head in shame.

Jimmy Buffit: Ever detail any of Ron Artest's rides?

I'd buy a 2006 Corvette Z06 (@$65,000)

A Lexus 2006 LS 430 ($65,000)

A Dodge SRT-10 ($50,000)

And take the left over $55G's and buy some myself some silly toys.

Realistically, even if I had $235,000 to blow, I would never spend that much on a car. Although, the new Corvette Z06 ($65,000) is a car that I believe is worth its pricetag.

BTW... Gary, The car looks great.

I see Kerbeck in AC is advertising nationally during the Barrett-Jackson Auction. Plenty of new 'Vettes in stock ready to be delivered.

I'm with Dean...but I'd buy a Mercedes AMG E55 and an house with $235,000. I could swing it easy if the Texas lottery would stop drawing the wrong numbers every week!

:rofl

same here.. they keep drawing the wrong numbers for me also.. go figure... :nixweiss

I wonder if certain generations and/or models have especially good paint

What's the paint like to *work*? Easy to mar, easy to correct, soft/hard, what can you guys tell me?

George-I think when Rolls was making the cars (both Rolls and Bentley), the paint was much better. Now that BMW and VW are the owners of Rolls and Bentley respectively, I think something had to give and 100 hours on the paint was probably it.
