Barry Bonds broke Hank Arron's record last night...it looked like something that I wish I had seen live....regardless of what you think about the scandal that surrounds this guy....he still has an eye for the ball and can connect BIG TIME!

Well the inevitable finally happened. It was only a matter of time. My problem with it is the performance enhancing drugs he took allowed him to play these additional years, if he had not taken them I wonder how long ago he would have stopped playing.

On a side note a very class act by Hank Aarron and his words about Barry, I had thought he would not say anything but he stepped aside graciously.

Consistently hitting a major league curve ball
is probably the single most difficult skill in all
of sports (IMO). I'm not sure how much taking
artificial substances can help one do that. And
the guy throwing the curve ball was on steroids
too..... I don't have too much of a problem with
Bonds breaking the record. He hit most
of them clean, and even when he was
on steroids, it wasn't initially against the
rules.

I didn't have respect for him before, and I don't now. It is not solely based on the allegations of performance enhancing drugs either. He just doesn't carry himself in a way that demands respect.

There is no "probably" about it, BB. Hitting a baseball "IS" the most difficult act in sports. That is why there is such an uproar over his accomplishment.

The use of preformance enhancing drugs by Bonds is over blown by the media IMHO.

Baseball would be better off focusing on issues that will make a difference in upgrading baseball rather than the constant degradation of besmirching Bonds.

You are right performance enhancing drugs are not going to allow you to hit homeruns. However they do allow you to recover from injury faster and hit the ball harder and farther. The against the rules part is the part that baffles me with baseball as a whole. While they were not written into any type of drug testing policy, steriods on a whole are an illegal drug, unless perscribed by a doctor.

innocent until proven guilty...that was my take from the start.

Whether he really did it or not, witnessing history and watching one of the best all-around player in the history of MLB, will always be something I'll never forget.

757 and counting for BB.
500 and counting for Arod.

HR king for me though will always be Babe Ruth

There is something else to take into consideration: him being a role model for young baseball fans. What is this telling those kids? You can do whatever you want, as long as you are good in sports?

YES!!! You said it perfectly! I couldn't agree more. He acts like a conceited jerk and I can't stand it when people are like that.:wall

Ditto

The babe did it on hot dogs, beer, and cigars. And in such a short time.

This record deserves an asterisk.

Yup ..the Babe is the standard of an out of shape, beer guzzling, cigar smoking, womanizer ...and he played the same 22 years as Barry has so far..Hank had 23 years...

loved the movie Babe and you can't take away the childhood hero of which each generation grows up with ...Barry is the best we've seen in our lifetime and I'm guessing he'll go over 800 before he's done... barring injury A-Rod will break his record in about 8-9 years ..and either Albert Puljos or Ryan Howard could be the next after him ...
Steriods as said before don't increase hand /eye coordination, they just give more strength to hit it a little farther...even if they review and took away the ones that barely made it over the fence...in the end he'll still probably eclipse the 755 mark ...

Imagine if they could go back and take away all the wins by pitchers who threw spit balls , used sandpaper, or even used steriods to recover from strains and injuries...or the batters who took amphetamines to get over their drunken stupers like Micky Mantel often did ..where would all of our childhood heros and idols really be placed in our minds:hmmm:

I'd still be with The Whaler! He's a role model we can all look up to.:passout:

he still has an eye for the ball and can connect BIG TIME!

There are meidcal opinions that say steroids improve your vision while you're taking them and it's not uncommon for someone with 20/20 vision to be 20/10.

My opinion of Bonds is that yes he is pretty much a jerk, and I could care less how many HR's he hit before or after this "new era" of baseball started around 15 years ago. There are performance pressures put on those guys all the way from the owners down to the trainers, and even though I don't like Bonds, I'm mildly amused that the storm is centered on him. It's all about 756 I guess.

The game has changed and if Bonds is truly dirty, he's not the only one.

I'm happy for Barry.

One can always argue that there was easier pitching back then and there are weights and drugs now. Blah Blah.

A-Rod will break this record widdddddddddddde open.
