Bargain Buffer?

Right now I have a craftsman random orbital 9" buffer and I want to get something better. I just don't have a lot of $ to throw around at the moment. Is there a good alternative to the PC? I dont just want a cheap POS...I'd like to get something good that will last without breaking the bank.

Thanks for any advice,

Mike

if your low on cash then look at the PC . I have had mine now for 3 years and not a problem at all.Coastol tools sell a pc for about 100.00

you will still have to get pads to use so it may be better in the long run to just buy a kit with pads and all auto geek most other places all sell a PC kit.

No one ever seems to mention the Griot's polisher. Those are reasonably priced, AFAIK (around $100-$120, IIRC)

look in the classifieds, there are some members selling their PC/UDM's...

p.s. joe/superiorshine did a side by side test (Griots vs. PC) and found that the PC was the better choice...

Mike, I definitely recommend going with a PC, even if it means holding off for a bit to get one. You want a tool that will be powerful enough to do some work, and that will be durable and reliable. This is an example of spending good money once rather than doing so after spending on something that doesn't work out for you.

Meh. I can go down to lowes and get a 7336 (a 7424 w/ a 6" counterweight) for 109+tax. Add a backing plate and BOOM. Instant buffer.

What about UDM? I've got a refurbished one from autopia store just for $89, I think it is a good deal. However you have to ask Lynn if they have refurbished ones at the moment.

No comment on it's quality since I picked mine up for a back up for my PC7424 and for some spot work on tougher jobs, and I haven't used it yet.

i would definitely go with a better quality. i tried one and it start up like grinder. and it made sounds like it was going to explode!. maybe i got a bad one, but it went back asap. now i have a hitachi

I think I'll just wait till I can afford to get one of the polish kits off of autogeek.

BTW do you guys know where PC is made?

I tried it, it was on sale for $30 so i figured what the hell. It works but is by no means a polisher for the professional, used it on two cars before the thing crapped out. It has a rough start and doesn't maintain speed very well under load. If your in a pinch or just need something to get buy go for it but dont make it your sole machine.

I've had an HF rotary for a couple of years and I can tell you that it lasts. Yeah, it may not be the smoothest of rotaries out there but it gets the job done as quickly and proficiently as others. For $30 it can't be beat. Matter of fact, months before buying the HF rotary I bought another rotary at Northern for $75. After using and comparing both, I decided I liked the HF better since it was as powerful as the Northern one and weighed alot less. :waxing: :buffing:
