Hey everyone,
I'm new to DC, and I must say I love it. I detail cars on the weekend for extra cash (college student) and I've been coming here to get tips on specific problems, new stuff, etc.
Anyways, I always heeded the warnings about cheap car shampoo. I use Meg's GC and recently started with NXT. This weekend I drove my '01 Infinity I30 400 miles to visit relatives. Bugs all overthe car. I decided to wash the car and they had some Turtle Wax Zip-Wax carwash (the $2.99/gallon stuff that gives you "128 washes") in the garage. Well, I should have left the bugs on the car. This stuff, even when properly diluted, streaked the car, left water spots and stripped just about all the wax. I just waxed it last week previous claying, with NXT paste, durable stuff. Well, I couldn't slide a towel on the car. Terrible stuff. And the house had a water softener system. I can't imagine what the results would have been with hard water.
In sum, you get waht you pay for. From my experience, I would say that car shampoo is one of the detailing supplies that can benefit the most from an investment in good quality, proven stuff.
Please, if anybody has a bottle of the Zip stuff, use it to wash tires.
