Backing Plates Wear out

I've been getting my backing plates from topoftheline.com and after a few months they wear out and do not stick to the pads anymore. I've tried cleaning them and they look alright but do not stick. Does anyone else have this problem or a suggestion for a different backing plate? Thanks,

Jon

Have you gave thought to chaning over to the Edge 2000 pad system , this does away with backing plates totally. :buffing:

I use these under the Malco label.

malco.com is a site for a chain of theater's. I have the edge pads, but I thought they were the only ones with this system so I was curious about the malco ones (unless they are simply his supplier for edge pads).

I'm sure if you google Malco you can find the web site. Edge pads private labels pads for many chemical companies , Malco is one of them Adrex , Auto Magic are a few others. When ever you see that adapter type system its made by Edge Pads do to the fact it's a Patented product also look for that beveled edge on the pads thats an Edge trademark

Are you sure it is the backing and not the pad. The little hairs some times don't hold up and wear out. The little hooks in the velcro have nothing to stick to.

If you think it is the backing, switch to mirka DA backing. We use these all day 5 days a week with our DAs set from 4 to 6 and they have lasted so far for about 2 years plus.

I've been using the 3M backing pads for a while now. I haven't had any problem with them. And yes, even though I'm a meguiars nut, their backing pads don't really hold up to everyday use. It's bad when you are buffing the car and next thing you know, your buffing pad is flying off across the room.

Backing pads do not buff very well...gotta keep that buffing pad on it....lol

dentless dave!! :xyxthumbs

My Lake Country flexible backing pad has been going strong for a while now. It really makes the difference over a stiff backing pad.

Where do you get the Mirka backing plates? I did a search online and found the mirka website but not where to buy them. Thanks,

Jon

I have a 3M 6" backing plate that I bought in 1996 and it dry rotted before it "wore" out. There is still a maroon Meguiar's pad stuck to it and I keep them together in a plastic bag as my first set. Speaking of pads. I still have and use a maroon Meguiar's pad that I bought at the same time and it shows no sign of wear at all.
