I have the PC from coastal tools, and as you might know it comes with a 5 and a 6 inch Counter weight. I also have both a 5 and 6 inch backing plates. I have used both but can not tell any deference between the two. So I was just wondering what combination you guys use and prefer...

Thanks for he help

The 4 oz. goes with the 5" backing plate and the 5 oz. goes with the 6". It just helps to cut down on vibration a little.

Counterweights:

Is a half-moon shaped piece of metal attached to the rotating shaft of the tool, this smoothes out the random orbit action by providing a counter balance to the elliptical orbit of the rotating backing pad. If you change the pad size you must also change the counterweight or suffer unnecessary vibration and possible damage to the tool. Counterweights are attached with two Torx fasteners; size T15.

There are two different counter-weights, which are clearly marked to indicate use with either the 5-inch, or 6-inch backing pad. Therefore with a 6-inch backing pad for polishing you should use the 6-inch, 5oz. counterweight (PN 699933). The vibrations that are generated at higher speeds when using a 5-inch weight and a 6-inch pad are unacceptable for most people. For the 5-inch backing pad (or smaller) for polishing you should use the 5-inch, 4oz (PN 874011) counterweight.

~Hope this helps~

I have the Meg's PC (actually a 7335 I believe) that has a 5" counterweight. I use a 5" backing plate and usually use Meg's 6.5" pads, often at speed six and have very little vibration. I've never even put the handle on my PC.

I guess what I am mainly asking here is WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION on backingplate size.I have both a Five and six inch Backingplates and the counter weights for each size, and I use the Six and a half Inch pads. So what I want to know, Is, what size do YOU like to use with YOUR Six or six and half inch pads . 5 or 6 inch backingplates, and is there a advantage to one over the other.

Thank to ALL

For the size pads you're using you should use a 5" backing plate. I use a 5" plate with 6.5" pads.

If you use a 6" backing plate with a 6/6.5" pad and the plate is a larger diameter than the velcro on your pad you run the risk of damaging the pad. In addition, with a 6" pad/plate you have a greater risk of the plate making contact with your paint.

If you move up to a larger diameter pad the 6" plate may be OK if it doesn't extend past the Velcro.
