Hello all, im just about to throw in the towel and try my chances with a local professional or drive to columbus or detroit for know quality detailers, background way below, question first.

trying to get car prepped for opticoat. did opt hyperpolish to distilled/MF:residue. same with ipa 15%/distilled residue.

then...50/50 vinegar..clean, but tried to then clean with clean cobra yellow mf/15%ipa again, see pic:

1. so what is this! if clean before did I not wash the mf enough and they have residue? stored in airtight container right way.

2. can i opticoat on top of what i assume will be some 50/50 white vinegar residue?

thanks,

background:

2013 bmw jerez black. my first new car after 4 decades on this earth. never detailed before.

no dealer prep. cgcw/foam gun/2bw grit/sheepskin mitt/clay/ipa (strong, though it caused minor scratches, not sure)/3m green tape

(tape left some residue on gloss black grilles and i cant get it out with ipa wipes, scared to use goo gone b/c perceived strong solvents, any safe ideas?)

pc LC white/opt hyperpolish (orange for 2-3 spots). it looked great. then made the mistake of going with hyperpolish and black. some minor places look

like i didnt wipe the poslish off (stacked semicircles like i didnt work the polish off enough). i still have that problem and once i solve the above issues, ill have to go back and redo some panels. any suggestions for this? should i just switch to m205? i know its just my skill level in working the final step. i really wanted to jewel the paint before opticoat. i would optiseal and keep trying, but young family etc, now or never....

Pics aren't showing up?

Regardless, you better make sure that your surface is 100% bare before coating it.

I'm not sure M205 is a better choice either for you.

As far as the trim, I would try a light mix of APC. What kind do you have?

I'm in the Metro Detroit area if you are able to come here..... :) Where are you located?

Sorry to hear you're having problems. If there's any way to get the car to David Fermani I'd absolutely go that route.

I'd remove adhesive residue with 3M Adhesive Remover. If I wanted to use a less-potent solvent I'd use ValuGard's New Car Prep (you can tell by the name what it's designed for!).

I would *NOT* try M205. IME it leaves sooo much behind in the way of oils/etc. that I think it would compound your current problem.

I'd do whatever you can to get the car to David, I bet you'd look back on that and think it was a good course of action.
