As a member of Autopia, I have learned many insightful things about detailing / car care. It is with this that I would like to contribute with an great item I came across recently… an instructional DVD pertaining to Detailing / Buffing your car. It’s called “Buffing With Confidence...Auto Detailing the Professional Wayâ€

I have always enjoyed keeping my cars looking showroom perfect. This goes for my Corvette and daily driver…Ford Taurus (no comments please). Once or twice a year, I thoroughly detail my cars, centered around taking-out the Porter Cable to polish them up.

While I am not a professional detailer by any means, what I have learned has been through a lot reading and participating on forums (such as Corvette Forum and Autopia). This DVD brings the whole detailing process together, in an easily understandable manner. Some of the topics covered include:

- Paint Technology

- Detailing Preparation

- Buffing Product Selection (compounds, polishes etc…)

- Use of various Buffing Pads (Foam & Wool)

- How to properly handle the buffer

- Fixing Paint Imperfections (like Swirl Marks, Stains)

I watched this DVD last night for the first time and came away very impressed. I will definitely feel more confident the next time I detail my car. I just want to mention it in case any others want to learn more about this topic. Here is the link from where I purchased it from:

I agree...but most of the free demos are not comprehensive and do not review various techniques / paint problems. The free demos are a good starting point. This DVD is for people who are more serious about getting desired results

What I'm asking is it is a comprehensive rotary video like the one show car garage was going to release? I have a makita 9227 and I'm just not getting the results I would like to be getting.

The DVD does not specialize in just one particular aspect of detailing (ex. exclusive use of the rotary), but rather an overall comprehension of the entire process and how to approach different circumstances. Alot of topics are covered including: paint types, car preparation, buffer types, pad types, special challenges (swirls) etc...

I am in intermediate detailer, and I got alot out of the DVD...

I ordered the Buffing with Confidence DVD from topoftheline.com. It was $42.95 and shipping was a couple of bucks. Their cart tells you it's like $8 but they refund you the difference.

I have searched a bunch of websites and forums and have not found nearly a tenth of the information that was on this dvd. I have seen some short clips on the rotary. For the PC there are a ton of great videos available for free on the net.

For someone who is new to the rotary like me it was well worth the money. There are a lot of great tips and tricks on the dvd. I you get it you will watch it more than once.

Kevin is a friend of mine and owner of the school and site.

I can't say enough nice things about him. He is top notch and a no BS guy.

He also helped develop the Optimum Polish. $500.00 for his class would be money well

spent

Yup, find it funny that people will be scared of spending less than $1000 for training, while these courses can improve a huge amount your technique, knowledge, and reputation as a detailer.

i'm sure he's nice as can be, just saying that sites like this made it possible for me to gain an understanding for true detailing. this site is free, i can ask many pro's q's if i had any about any product or technique for free. if many guys on this site recorded themselves on any given day only explaining each step they would most likely post it here, for free. hands on is another story, showing someone in person is much more effective than a video, 50 bucks a pop just seems pretty steap. there are thousands of complex vids of many trades online, most of them being free.
