Audi A6

So I got a car :getdown and then I detailed it last week. I did the best I could with the car. I had gotten a great shine, even though I couldn't take out the worst swirls.

Then I take the car today to the dealer to check out the engine light. So, I assumed they wouldn't wash it cause I'm retarded. So I get the car back and nothing needed to be fixed (check engine light came on). I get back look at the hood and see the worst holograms that I have ever seen in person. :sadpace: :sadpace: :sadpace:

The worst part about it is that I had been laughing at a new A8 4.2 going for $78K with the same holograms in indirect sunlight. So I guess that I learned my lesson, I made a sign that says "DON'T WASH MY CAR."

In desperation I washed it about an hour ago in hope of getting the dirt off. "Dirt" I say? My brother afterwards tells me that he witnessed their car washing which consists of bottom to top, tire gel massaged by a blackened towel, towel gets laid on the ground, and the car is dried by the same towel.

I won't know for sure if I did any good till tommorow but does anyone have any advice as do what I could do. I was hoping my detail would last, but now I rehit rock bottom + some.

i have to take my car to the honda dealer tomorrow for the 60k tune-up, and the first thing i'm going to tell them when they write it up, is NOT to wash it! hopefully, i won't experience what you have, sorry to hear about it...

I had a friend many years ago tell me a similar horror story involving his brand new black Mercedes. Ever since then I've always told the dealer never to wash my car. 99% of the time they listen and every once in a while I forget to mention it and then I have to polish my car over.

Sorry to hear about that. I hope you expressed your displeasure (politely but emphatically) to the powers that be at the dealership.

You'll just have to repolish.

Sounds like your Audi's clear is as hard as that on our Audis. If I were you, I'd get a 4" pad setup for your PC and some more aggressive product (maybe Hi-Temp Heavy Cut). But since you want to do it tomorrow, jus try repeating your previous detail and see how well it turns out. It'll look better and if it doesn't turn out good enough you can at least rest assured that you won't have taken off too much clear (then just order the more aggressive pad/product and try again later).

FWIW, marring on Audis (induced by others BTW ;) ), was why I finally bought a rotary after years of not needing one.

Just finished calling, they say they put it through an automatic car wash.

"We do the best we can, uh I think the brushes in it were only 4 or 5 months old."

If that wasn't disturbing enough.

"Bring it in maybe we will be able to buff it out for you."

I need Time Travel!

I also made up a sign that says "dealer do not wash this car" it's on both sides and laminated with a string over the top. I hang it on my rearview mirror when I drop my car off for service.
