So, I took the plunge and got the Griot's Garage Dual Action Polisher kit (both 3" & 6") over the holidays...couldn't resist the great deal. I tested the polishers on one of my cars with the bottle of "Machine Polisher 3" the kit came with. I don't think that product produced any results whatsoever, so I bought Meg's Ultimate Compound for a test...

Front grill before...quite dull.

The Meg's Ultimate Compound smoothed the black shield and restored alot of the gloss. I'm happy with the results, but not blown away by any means.

After polishing, I used Griot's Paint Sealant for protection. I used it a year ago on this car, and I felt it did a wonderful job of keeping my paint easy to maintain.

Overall, I'm very pleased with Meg's Ultimate Compound and the Eagle One tire/wheel cleaner. The car looks amazing as long as you stand about 2 feet away. Up close, many swirls still abound if you look long enough. Perhaps the Griot's polishers are too weak or I need better pads or more aggressive product(s). Either way, it was a good way to spend a Saturday morning. Thanks for any c & c :peace:

Just in case anyone wants to offer some very harsh criticism on the ride, please be advised it's about 5 years old, has nearly 76,000 miles and is driven between 300 and 500 miles a week on I-95. I'm on my 3rd complete set of tires, too. It's not just a daily, it's ma baby!

if they have anymore of those EO1 all wheel & tire cleaners for that price, buy them all! even at regular price, it's still a great product...

The Wraith- The Griot's polisher is powerful enough; I've done significant correction on hard clear with it. Gotta use the right pads/products if you want to get really aggressive though.

That MP#3 was *very* gentle the last time I tried it (not sure if they've reformulated it since then, mine was V2.0 or V3.0). Strictly a finishing polish on most paints, especially something as hard as VW clear. Wonder how you'd like it as a follow-up to the UC  That's how I'd try it.. might add just a little something, that tiny improvement can make a diff to those who really care.

Any suggestions on which pads/products will help me get more results with less effort?

The UC already as a good cut, but M105 will have a little more. I find the old-tech Meguiar's 7006 burgundy cutting pad works well, but it's not like anything will speed things up all *that* much (not like using a Flex 34012 let alone a rotary).

Eh, this stuff via random orbital just takes time. You implied you did the whole car in a day, and I can spend that long on a few panels. Heh heh, yeah...makes me think about getting out the rotaries ;)

Three goes with a good cutting pad and M105 might remove all the swirls, leaving only RIDS. Optimum's Hyper (spray) Compound has a bit less cut but is *MUCH* more user-friendly, and it did nearly the same (removing all but RIDS) on my beater-Tahoe, but that was via Flex.

There are new comounding/polishing systems in the pipeline from Meguiar's, maybe those will be just what you're after. Until then, there's always the SurBuf pad, but *I* didn't get much more cut out of those compared to the 7006 (likely my user-error though).

BUT...what about living with the residual marring? Is it really bad enough to bother with a re-do?

Funny how the $50.00 ECS Tuning Clear side markers only stay clear for about a month, maybe two. The $18.00 Ebay ones have stayed crystal clear close to two years now! ***!!!???

I'd (*politely*) bring that to the attention of the folks at ECS, who are good, honorable people whom I esteem highly.
