Has anyone else ever had the thin transparent coating come off of any interior vinyl?
Just a gripe, and a caution, but some of the most expensive cars have the worst coating on some of the vinyl. I've now seen this issue on two Porches and two Mercedes...and it happened to me yesterday. Basically, on the Mercedes S-class AMG (built in Germany) I did yesterday, I notices a little wear (only 24 months old) on the very top section of the inside door panel...as I started cleaning, I noticed the coating was coming off. The coating is very very thin and transparent and must be a uv-protective coating or something. But of course, after I cleaned it, it looked much worse...forcing me to abrade the coating off of the entire section so it looked uniform. Fortunately it looked 100% fine afterward, but it was a real pain. Bad, bad design...and I'm sure this was a $90,000 ride.
Same thing on Porches...they too seem to utilize a coating that eventually starts to wear off...the last one I saw this happen too was on black interior where the driver's knee rubbed while driving. Took me almost 45 minutes to remove the rest of the coating from this pannel, and it definitely had a different sheen with the coating off. Again...very poor design.
