Are you bothered by skeeters and bugs when you're out detailing? I found the answer!

I usually detail in the open garage in the evenings, and get eaten alive. I got five mosquito bites just yesterday. As soon as I turn on all those fluorescent and halogen lights every flying pest comes right in the open door. Mosquitoes, moths, flies, gnats, and many more.

Today I tried something called a Thermacell mosquito repellent device, not really expecting much relief, and it worked! I only saw one fly that stayed for about two minutes and left, that's it. Nothing. No bites, no moths even. I'm completely sold on this little thing, and I thought I'd pass the info on to you guys if you don't already know about this marvelous little device.

For the last month or more there's these two tiny little fly's that buzz around in circles in the open doorway. Like they chase each other around for hours on end. Never going all the way in and never leaving. So today that was the first thing I noticed after turning it on. My two little friends were missing. Just then the two of them came racing around the corner, flew into the garage, about two feet in, and instantly turned around and flew back out again! Like they hit a wall or something. LOL. And they never came back.

I think it has a clip to put onto your clothes if your are active, like hiking or something. Otherwise i'm sure you could just set it down near the car and it would work fine. not sure how it works though, it probably emits a high pitch wave or something like that.

ThermaCELL uses revolutionary, patented technology to dispense a small amount of repellent into the air over a long period of time. ThermaCELL is powered by a butane cartridge which provides the cordless, portable heat necessary to operate the device (batteries are not needed). It directs the heat to a metal grill. A mat saturated with Allethrin, a copy of a naturally occurring insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers, is placed on top of the metal grill. The heat generated by the butane cartridge vaporizes the repellent allowing it to rise into the air, creating a 15 x 15 ft (225 sq ft) “Mosquito-Free-Zone” in minutes. The repellent is very unpleasant to mosquitoes, but when used as directed, will not harm humans or pets.

After record rainfall and flooding for 3 months, usually a desert here. The flying "gators" are out of control.

Definitely sounds like a good idea.

According to cabelas about 12 hours. Seems like a good deal, next time I'm there I'm going to pick one out as I always work outside and am tired of all the flying things around me. Thanks for the post!

It uses butane to heat a pad with the chemical on it to release it in the air. You just put it on a table, shelf or bench somewhere and that's it. It works for four hours per pad and costs about $2-3 or so for that time in both pads and butane. You get 3 pads and one gas cartridge in the kit. For $24 you get 12 replacement pads and 4 butane cartridges. Each good for 4 hours.

And I cant tell you how happy I am to not have any new bug bites itching me today. :woot2:

Have used a Thermacell for some time while fishing and hunting with excellent results.......A slight breeze, however, negates some of the benefits, so a little Deep Woods Off will take up the slack......There ya go..no bugs...
