Are my OZ Racing rims ruined? (winter)

Yeah, I foolishly went thru most of the winter riding on my 18" OZ Racing rims...
Long story short...major yellow discolouration on the outside of the spokes and dark brown discolouration on the inner portion of the rim (thrown off from rotors?)
Probably some minor pitting (iron dust) thruout as well...
These are painted rims BTW...silver paint.
I wrecked my original rims by winter driving :(

So, what technique and product to use to best restore the finish to like-new condition?
I've had luck with Spray9 in the past on the yellowing...
Maybe clay barring as well?
Please help me :wall
 
I think clay would remove any surface contaminents, but not necessarily the yellowing, try a polish and see how that does...
 
Yesterday Stephan and I where talking about steam..of which he swears by for cleaning...if you could get your hands on a steamer, or rent one this would be one of the attacks I would try...

also you will find it a lot easier on you and get better results if you can get the wheels off the car
 
I was going to give some advice, but I really need pictures. So many things can cause yellowing. Sometimes just the coating on lugnuts can drip down and cause it. If you can get some clear pictures of the damage then that will help alot. Otherwise we are just shooting in the dark.

Well I would use that, but I was coming up with a cheaper alternative, but yes a steamer that can generate consistent heat will do wonders.

And I agree with Dave, roving the rims makes it alot easier, plus saves the knuckles

Opinions on removing this mess?
 
It doesn't look that bad :) I'd use Spray & Rinse to remove all the surface crud (couldn't think of a better word :lol2: ) then polish them, you could also use some old clay for any stuck on protruding pieces, and they should be fine. :rockon
 
BTW, if you have some don't forget to put PB Wheel Sealant on the rims after the polish. It will help give the wheels some sparkle and protect them against that annoying yellowing. Great product!:rockon

As stated, they don't look that bad...they should clean right up!

Sometimes I like to use normal car wash, with just a little bit of a strong cleaning solution such as DP Exterior Surface Cleaner....this works great on brake dust, bug grime, etc.

Whatever doesn't come out, you can try claying, or Klasse All In One is one of my favorites for wheels since it does such a great job cleaning AND protecting.
