Applying poorboy's ex without polishing, ok?

Normally when I seal a car, I polish it first. I do have some clients who prefer only to seal/wax and not polish. Now that winter's approaching, I know that some of my clients are going to want to be sealed before winter hits. I was reading the back of P/B EX and it recommends polishing first. If I wash/clay real good am I okay to leave out polish step if paint is in pretty good condition? Thanks.
 
Yes that would be fine. The company is recommending to polish first to get a smooth surface, which will aid in extending the durability of the product. If you clay first, the surface will be very smooth, and ready for the EX application.
 
You should at a minimum, use a paint cleaner to insure a sterile surface. This will ultimately lead to longer durability, and that should make your clients happier.....
 
If the paint is in such good shape, why clay it? I think you'd get better results doing a polish instead of a clay before applying a sealant, if you are on a time restraint.



If they want just a 1-step, but with longer than a month of durability, I'd recommend FK's 215. It has diminishing abrasives and cleaners, so you could enhance the appearance of the car (clean and polish *minor* defects) without doing two steps. Also, it is a sealant, not a wax, so it's supposed to last around 3 months. Personally, I've had it last over 2 months before applying another coat of sealant/wax, so 3 months isn't an unreasonable expectation.
