Anyone using the new P2 Propel Pads from Excel

I am looking to stock up on pads for this seasons details. I was wondering if anyone is using the new style pads from Excel. They are a few dollars more but when your buying 10 pads this really starts to add up and I want to make sure they are worth it. TIA

I have a green one, and it's nice because the pad doesn't lift up around the edge of the backing plate when you apply pressure. They cost more, but do you really save anything if you have a couple normal pads ruined by the edges lifting?

I have orange, yellow, green and blue. I have not used the yellow yet. I have use the orange, green and blue with the PC, the orange and green with my rotary. I got them when they first came out at the start of the year and have not had a problem with any of them.

Right now I am using the VC LC pads from top of the line. These pads are good but I wanted to see if there was something cheaper which the propel pads are. While I was at their website though I came accross the new style pad which I forgot that I saw back in Dec.

The P2s are the best all-around for the rotary - and that's a thread closer. But if you primarily use a PC, there are lots of pads that will suffice.

I just got done using my green P2 on my Xtreme Detail entry for this month. Awesome pad! And so neat lookin' too! :)

I use both of Parick's pads and both are great on a PC. My only previous experience had been with Megs. pads and they didn't have enough selection to get the job done.

One pad I find really useful that I don't hear much mention is the orange pad of excel, although it is supposed to be the most harsh, I find it less than the yellow pad, and it is great for getting swirls out with OP polish and PB2.5 and and does so with very slight marring or little, depending of course on the paint and color (especially with OP). Patrick, at Excel taught me this. Yellow with do more cutting surprisingly and will leave marring in my experience. I also like the 4" pads which are quite reasonable in price and are great for doing concentrated swirl removal and hard to get to areas.

So if you are on a budget, get a green (or blue) and orange pad, if not get a sampler kit from excel.

And to answer your question, the P2 is a better pad, and use it with a 6" backing pad if you have it for better torque, according to Patrick at Excel. And the P2 just plains looks cools. If you have any questions about the Excel pads, one of the best sources of course is calling Patrick.

PS

10 pads X $2 (P2) = $20 retail extra. I would say yes right off Top Notch even at that difference. But if you give Patrick a call and tell him Doug told you to give you P2 sampler special with a 6" backing plate (if you don't have it), the price difference between the two pads will be so neglible you can't pass up the deal. Patrick treats all his customers right. (Also instead of the sampler kit, you might want to skimp on the grey pads, and yellow pads, and get more of the blue, green and orange pads).

Goodluck with your pad selection Top Notch (my new favorite pad is the P2 orange)

Doug,

Thanks for the info. I have a 6in backing plate on both my rotary and pc. Money isn't really a factor when quality is at stake. I will call Patrick next week once the schedule improves and I will go over with him what I should buy. I also have to check my mobile suppleies as well as my home supplies as to what I need in terms of pads and products. I thought I had a fair amount of stock but business has been strong the past few weeks and I have gone through products pretty fast.

Would the P2 sampler kit work well for a newb PC user or should I just wait til Patrick gets his regular pads back in stock and go with them? I'm not really in any hurry, but the weather here is finally starting to warm up and I currently haven't gotten any pads or backing plates yet.

The P2s are really neat pads. Since you don't have any pads yet, I'd just go with the P2s. If this is your first time polishing your car, you'll probably need to apply significant pressure to the PC to aid in correction. The P2s are more suited to staying intact under pressure.

So how do the LC VC pads compare with these P2's? ... i just received 2 of every vc pad available... will i be happy with my purchase?

The Propels and Propel2 pads are flat. VC (Variable Contact) pads have a concave surface. Only you can say whether you'll be happy with your purchase. Some people prefer flat pads, while others like VC pads.
