Anyone Try Opti-Coat 2.0 Over G/Techniq C4

Seems like it would make a great combination. The C4 bonds to the trim, darkening and protecting it from UV, then the Opti-Coat puts a thick barrier on top protecting it from physical wear.

I imagine after the C4 cures, the prep for Opti-Coat would not remove it since its bonding is permanent.

I just put OC on the trim.

So thats one person who does not do it, anyone who does?

I think what Rasky meant was that using OC on trim has the same effect as C4, so it would be kinda redundant. I just used OC for the first time on trim, and was very impressed at how well it darkened/restored the look of it. So putting OC over C4 would kinda be like using ZAIO to clean the paint after using Poly-Seal to clean the paint.... redundant. Personally, I'd never use two AIO products to clean paint (unless, of course, the first one didn't work), nor would I use two different coatings to restore trim, but that's just me. :)

Edit: Prepping for OC involves getting the target of application completely clean of all residues so it can properly bond. I'm not sure that C4 would be considered a properly prepped surface for OC to bond with. Something only Dr. G would be able to answer.

I was not aware that Opti-Coat darkened trim in a similar fashion.

Kinda defeats the purpose but whatever floats your boat...

it was sarcasm, I don't see the point of layering coatings (or LSPs for that matter).

I think it depends on how much the trim has faded. I asked the same question about OC'ing over C4 on another forum, and no one could see a reason why it wouldn't work. But on trim in good shape that isn't completely grey to start with, OC will darken a bit.

Yup.

As Mike noted it will depend on how bad the trim is, but if it's on good condition it gives it a nice matte appearance and it lasts a very long time...

I haven't tried the C4 yet but I thought I read somewhere that it's the same as C1 (which I have), but in a different bottle. I could be wrong on that one though.

i thought they were different but i don't know for sure. hopefully someone can clear this up.

Anyone worried about removing OC from the trim? I mean, years down the road you can re-polish and reapply the OC on the paint, but I dont think taking a buffer to the trim is going to work.

You'd have to wet sand it off. However I wouldn't have that as a concern, the only instance I could think of having to remove OC from trim would be if it was like the old Avalanche trim that gassed out terribly. The 1-year followup of the OC review I saw showed the trim still darker on the OC side (yes it does indeed darken your trim a couple shades) than the unprotected side.
