anyone try blackmagik tire gel???scared i may have corrosed my tires

well i purchased blackmagics tire gel at pep boys because of the claim that it has no slinging. well for once ive found a tire dressing otc that doesnt sling. it left a real nice deep glossy finsh on my tires. lasted the whole week.

only think im scared is that when i washed my tires the folowing week i sprayed them with a2z wheel and tire and as i scrubed the tires lightly there seemed to be little black micro flakes that i never noticed before all on my white wheels.

after i finshed i hosed the tires down and the tires lost a little gloss but still shined as if i just dressed them. they still had a greasy feeling and when id rub my finger against the tire my finger came back black.

after that i just went back to tire wet from eagle one and just buffed off the tire to prevent slinging.

anyone have any opinions or insight on what happend?
 
That is kind of interesting. I have a bottle of this stuff that I tried out when the store was out of my Eagle One Wet. My complaints are extreme sling and also zero durabilty. The tires didn't stay black for very long. I can easily get two weeks out of Eagle One and likely more in dry weather conditions. Black Magic was not a good product in my opinion and now sits on my 'disgraced products' shelf.

Tire shine shouldn't have any corrosive properties in it. I would highly doubt that it had anything to do with the black flakes on your wheels. However, I would suggest having a wheel expert verify that since you may have a liablity issue with the makers of Black Magic if it is causing damage. Like I said, I don't think it would be to blame, but people didn't expect Pintos to explode when rear ended either.

are you sure you're talking about the tire GEL?
 
hmmm.. maybe its not the gel, but its BlackMagic tire stuff. Its up on the top shelf with my stinky Lexol and the rest of my disgraced products.

Well, I see a couple of Meg's Deep Crystal bottles, Meg's Leather cleaner, something from Mothers, the Black magic tire spray, a couple of Meg's Mirror glaze line, and the Lexol. What am I missing?
 
well thats the spray. i have the new GEL. it comes in a botle similar to liquid souveren. the gloss on the tires is awesome. amazing high gloss for those who like that fake look, but it just worries me the fact that the tires seem to stay dirty and i cant take it off. oh well. anyone else have insight?
 
I would thoroughly scrub down the tires with a product like Mothers Tire and Rubber cleaner and switch to a water based product, durability generally isn't great but there is no sling to worry about , it is safer for the tire overall and you could enhance the gloss by applying another coat generally once the first has dried.
 
Hey Joyride I get that too - I just thought it was dirt or something - I don't think it's eating my tires..it better not be they are 200 a pop (not bragging I would buy cheaper better tires but it's a lease :lol).

Without seeing the miles, they're going to think you kept it in the garage all the time!

Just think of the resell value!
 
I haven't had any problems with the Black Magic Tire Gel. I do two passes with an old TW foam applicator, the one that comes with their other products, and it doesn't sling. I do let it cure on there, and I use Wesley's Bleche-White before that to clean the tire, maybe that makes a difference. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Could the EO A2Z have anything to do with it? That stuff is harsh and corrosive as is Westley's Bleche Wite. Both are a 3 on MSDS health rating and something that should not be used on a regular basis.
 
The Westley's Bleech Wite can cause damage quickly to wheels, if any of it comes into contact with the wheel, look out!! :wait :eek: . The A2Z is also strong stuff and IMO, shouldn't be used routinely to clean tires/wheels. The safest approach is regular washing with car wash. In the meantime, maybe one of the 4 Star cleaners, or as I use, Mother's Rubber and Tire Cleaner are a bit less risky when the occasional, deep down tire cleaning is necessary.

The flaking on the wheels sounds like severe embedded brake dust particles (perhaps a 3 step decontamination wash system from Autoint or Finish Kare may help) or dirt that has gotten into pores of the paint that have formed as part of the start of clear coat failure ( if they are clear coated). If you can post a photo maybe we can help diagnose better.
