Anyone have a coton de tulear dog?

Gee, you stumped me with this one. I'd see what the breed's general temperament/personality characteristics are when deciding if it's the right one for you two. Too many people buy dogs because of how they look...

I think you're going to have a winner with this breed. They are very affectionate and strive to please their owners. Love to stay by your side. They are also great with other dogs and children. And an added benefit is the dog is very cute :) Good luck!

Here it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coton_de_Tulear

Seems perfect for us and maybe it can help me shipping packages at night. Or at least keep me company. LOL

Me too!

Thanks!

Danase- Ah, OK, thanks for the link. Sounds good if you can socialize it (sounds like that'll be important, but then it always is..) and deal with the "very vocal breed" aspect ;)

New on the DANASE website:

Coton_de_Tulear washmitts: Ultra Plush and limited availability! LOL

Oh man, can't you get a little more manly dog? JK JK

:lol

I could not get a "manlier" dog but would not want to put a dog through that. Our house and yard is tiny and I don't want to have to put a big dog through not having enough space to run around and stuff. :woohoo:

Why don't you get a compact manly dog like I did :chuckle:

I think I post pictures of Baxton like he is own child :doh

Thanks everyone.

Actually their hair hardly sheds from what I have been reading. And the hair has a coating on it that helps it to repel dirt so I won't have to wax it as much. LOL

I have two Bicon Frise which are very similar to the Coton. Absolutely great dogs, very devoted, although they have a tendency to think the cat is a pillow. :)

One thing, once you get your dog find a local trainer where you can take a course for the dog to get it's CGC Certificate. This is an AKC recognized course and teaches both you and the dog many useful things. If you intend to bring the dog with you on some vacations or road trips many hotels will not take a dog unless you can provide proof of CGC. Info here

Thanks for the info. DFTowel.

"Official dog of Madagascar?" I thought the same thing when I read that too. :lol

Danase- IIRC we discussed some dog-ownership books on a long-ago thread. Look into "The Art of Raising a Puppy" and "How To Be Your Dog's Best Friend", both by The Monks of New Skete. Sorta-weird guys but they do know their stuff and IMO the books are must-reads for any dog owner.

Thanks! I will have to check those out for sure.

That's funny...my wife's cat tends to think my Bichon is a punching bag. Getting ready for a good swat here...

So Danase, when do you plan on buying your new wash mitt? ;)

Oh it won't be until spring at the earliest. Winter is arriving here in Michigan and I don't want to have to train a dog in a foot of snow. LOL
