Anybody warm leather via heat gun?

Ive found that cleaning and conditioning leather works best when the leather is soft, mainly after its been warmed up a bit with my halogens. I was thinking of a quicker way to warm the leather up before treating it, would be using a heat gun be a good idea, a safe distance away and on low temp of course. Any suggestions?

I think a really safe distance would be ok. But not close. Cause I think it would burn the leather.

i tend to like using my steamer. it makes quick work and cleans while opening the pores of the leather.

How can you open the pores on the leather when you have a polyurethane coating over the surface??

The principle of adding heat is pert of the CHAT process which covers any cleaning you are doing (Chemical, Heat, Agitation, Time) where one is increased the others decrease proportionally so adding heat may decrese the time and use less chemical.

What Judy said! If you want to heat your leather, then use a blow dryer. A hair dryer should not do any damage to the leather.

I have used a heat gun in order to help make leather more pliable but have never toyed with it during cleaning/conditioning. It helps greatly when fitting brand new leather to a seat but with my experience this was simply because it became easier to stretch without ripping or cracking.





I don't think heating it would really "open" the leather up and allow a conditioner to penetrate easily...Then again, I am a detailing amateur.
