Anybody tried one of these?

Hmm seems nice, but for that price I rather add a PC to my arsenal since a PC costs the less or same :).

It seems a tad pricey in light of the fact somebody mentioned $87 for a PC at Lowe's recently. If space is really a problem, the PC is small. Store it under the couch.

I haven’t used this model but I have tried their other (heavier) one.

First, the reason it’s pricey is because it’s a Dynabrade. They only make heavy-duty industrial tools (mostly pneumatic). Their stuff is built to be used three shifts a day on an assembly line.

If this model is anything like their other the orbital throw is huge, something like five times larger than the PC’s. You need a powerful and sturdy rotary to drive it (I tried it with Dynabrade's rotary).

It’s fun to use, much heftier than a PC and takes off material way faster. It’s kind of in between a PC and a rotary in aggressiveness but won’t leave swirls like a rotary. I didn’t use it enough to decide for sure when or where (or if) I would prefer it over a PC.

PC.

Looks interesting, but when I researched it, I found it comes with an 8" backing plate. Since my pads are 6.5" and 7.5", it won't work. I'm not certain if you can swap out for a smaller backing plate since it indicates the plate is weighted. Sounds like only their plate will work.

edit: I e-mailed Dynabrade to ask if they sell a smaller weighted backing plate. I also asked if they don't sell a smaller one, can I swap it out in favor of an aftermarket plate.

I contacted them regarding a smaller backing plate or using another company's backing plate and here is what they said:

We only offer this sanding head in one size. We would not reccomend putting a different size pad on this accessory. The balancer shaft is mated for a specific weight--vibration could become an issue if a different pad is used. We do offer a 3" and 5" tool (model number 57126 and 57245) that will give you the same swirl free finish. Thanks for using our product -- and if you have any further questions feel free to contact us.
