Anybody ever screwed up

Lots of lessons learned here. Mostly in the early days of my detailing.

As far as really messing up, I did nearly ruin some polished aluminum wheels with Simple Green. I was using it to clean tires (full strength... YEARS ago!)

The polished aluminum immediately etched and oxidized. I told the customer that I needed the car an extra day at no charge to him. He was definitely not happy. And it was definitely the last time I ever saw him.

I worked on those rims for 10 hours the next day, to get them looking as good as they did when he brought it to me!!! Valuable lesson there!!!:cursing:

It didn't really "cost" me anything, except a full day of detailing and hard work!:out: [Stupid, but it never happened again.]:cursing:

Mistake

Had a boss one time tell me " Show me a man that hasn't ever made a mistake and I'll show you a man thats not working. Lots of truth in that my friend.Oh and by the way, don't put gas in a diesel pick-up. LOL

I had a very unhappy customer one time. He didn't want his car waxed (I'm assuming it was based on the extra cost).

I waxed it anyway and didn't charge him for it, thinking I was "doing more than expected".

He was pretty pissed.

Another lesson learned. Give them EXACTLY what they want.

I had my first mishap last weekend. I was polsihing our Mazda with the new rotary, didn't tape the body modling, and shaved some paint off the plastic. It's my own fault. Now, everything gets taped.

I once gave my Lambo to a detailer who burned the crap out of it...

Oh wait, that is someone elses story...

Carry on.

(Oh, and I screw up something on my personal cars almost daily - good thing I don't do this for money). :D

Rotary buffers at 2500rpms's + wool polishing pads....Lets just say I've buffed off more than my share of emblems back in the day working for the auction.

If you ever see an old 80's early 90's Cadillac driving around with some letters missing from the emblem...it wasn't me. :Innocent:

Well, there's the 2"X4" piece of scotchbrite pad that I forgot about in the bucket... until I found it stuck in the wool of my sheepskin mit as I was washing the third panel of my wife's Toyota. Still polishing out the swirls!

Does that qualify? :toetap05:

I burned thru the paint on my buddies CTS........:scared:

It was his front lower trim and I was using a rotary with 85RD, it only took a few seconds and....bam....!

A two inch line on the leading edge of a corner.....

He was watching while it happened and couldn't look at me for several minutes. I felt terrible and offered to get it repainted. He refused and told me he had just recently had it repainted and knew his guy could touch that up.....

I learned my lesson and no longer use a rotary for plastic bumpers.....
