Anybody do a vinegar/water wipedown regularly after washing?

wifehatescar

My L5-S1 is killing me!
No matter how fast I dry off my car after a wash it still seems to get water spots here and there so I almost always do a light 50/50 vinegar/water wipe down afterwords to make sure there are no spots.

Anyone else do this? I suppose a QDer might take care of it too but sometimes I don't use one so I do the vinegar thing. I also takes care of any spots I may have missed while washing.

Anyone have any comments about this practice?

I personally would refrain from doing that, as any type of acid is harsh on your car's paint. I like QD as a touchup after waxing..and also to maintain shine until I am able to wash again.

I also would refrain from regular use of vinegar, because it can cause rust if left on bare metal. I would use it for spot removal but not as a general product.

I also always get spots, but I find that keeping the whole car wet as I go and never doing it in the sun means that I can do a final sheeting rinse which minimises the amount of droplets. Then I use a CWB to quickly remove most of the remaining water and then blot anything left.

After that a QD gets rid of any water spotting that has occured.

Maybe you should try to find a shampoo/ wax that promotes sheeting rather than droplets? Or consider QEW to make it faster or to do a panel at a time.

As far as plenty of Z is concerned - plenty of anything on the car - polymer, wax, Z etc will mean that the water spots will form on that and not eat into the paint (will not unless you leave them long enough!)

Just to stir the pot a bit, I am not spraying it on bare metal at all and I'm not letting it sit. And I've been doing this frequently for years without adverse effects.

Is it harsh on the Zaino? (maybe that's a Sal question...)

There are acids in the vinegar that are "harsh" yes. Will it hurt anything? Probably not. Would I do it? No.

But thats my opinion. Do what you will.

I guess the key question is why are you having so many problems with water spots in the first place. Is your water very 'hard'?

Exactly, and are you washing the car in the sun...I have no problem drying my car fast enough to not get water spots.

sometimes yes sometimes no, it seems even if it's out of the sun on a hot day it will dry faster.

well, I'll probably stop based on the comments here or at least do it at my own risk. Thanks for the opinions :)
