Any WOOL pad rotary users here?

My L5-S1 is killing me!
I just ordered some Edge wool pads for my rotary (yellow and blue) since the foam pads don't seem to be "cutting it" as well as I'm hoping.

Any advice?
Do any professionals use them or find the need for them?

How should I change my technique for using them compared to foam?

Not a pro, but have used them. Be prepeared to follow up with foam. They are pretty aggressive, but work well when you are dealing with serious defects.

Some find that the wool pads are easier to buff with becasue they don't "grab" as much as the foam does. They seem to "glide" over the surface.

Again, I would just be really careful with them.

Thanks. Do they leave a haze behind or small swirling? How easy is that to remove?

Is it easy to just do a quick pass and then check the surface to see how much has been cut?

It is an absolute must to tape all edges and ridges with a wool pad. The real difference that I have experienced is that wool compresses on edges and the cutting action is localized and increased many times. This means it will cut fast....real fast and your paint is down to the undercoat. It`s fun to work with but I only tinker around with it on old beaters where there is no risk involved. Meguiar`s no. 84 Compound Power Cleaner works well with a wool compounding pad. the choice of speed, pad and polish are more exacting with wool.

What I'm looking forward to is trying something like the Edge BLUE wool. Yeah, it's wool, but supposidly is as agressive as a green foam pad...
Something like a black/yellow wool will cut fast I guess, but a green or blue wool cuts less. Time to experiment I guess!
If I start at 1000rpm, check the surface frequently, and stay away from edges, I should be ok. I always tape trim, even for PC work. I have burned through trim with a PC before! :eek

I learned on wool about 8 years ago. I still use it today. I only use it for the abused cars that have heavy or lots of scratches or heavy acid rain which is bad in my area. I always follow up with foam and maybe the PC as a final finish if its a darck colored car. Don't be too afraid to try go at it I've seen the red megs foam cut quicker than a wool pad. It's all about the speed and the pressure you apply. I'm a megs fan and I use DC 2.0 alot with the wool. It's designed for use with wool and the compound breaks down to a polish so sometimes all you need to finish with is some swirl free polish and wax. Any questions shoot me a PM I'll help if I can.
