Any Sealant/Wax that can hold looks for awhile?

I have a 2001 Black Trans Am. Gets weekly washing, daily driven, waxing when needing, polishing when needing. All of these boutique products I've been suckered into have been somewhat dissapointing as they may look better and be easier to use BUT durability and looks never seems any better than OTC. I've been using IW 845 mainly b/c I was told it kept its looks and durability for a long time. I've found that not the case. I've tried some EX and a few other sealants with the same outcome.

What holds its looks for more than a few weeks? I'm close to going back to OTC for sealants/wax if I have to apply so frequently anyways.

what kind of prep are you doing prior to putting down the wax? What are you washing the car with?

Definitely must answer questions.....

Werkstatt's Prime and Acrylic Jett hold their look for quite a while.

Sometimes poor durability can come from insufficient prep. There are many fine OTC products, BTW, especially if you are going to apply frequently. If you want the best longevity it's likely to be Klasse, JW, or Zaino...although you should be getting good results from the 845 IW, the Collinite DoubleCoat should be a bit better.

Definitely look into your prep work, I've gotten anywhere from 6 weeks to 4+ months from the so-called boutique products you talk about. I'm always putting something on before it's time, so durability is not an issue.

I stopped using waxes a while back for any situation where durability becomes an issue. Both products you metioned are carnauba products, and the durability of waxes is determined by a number of factors like climate, your washing techniques, etc.

I'd suggest looking into pure sealants from now on. There's a host of awesome sealants available, so I won't pinpoint any one to suggest.

Also, as the others have already suggested, your end result is completely dependant on the prep.

My technique has been:

wash

clay

wash

IP

FPII

AIO or COLOR X

IW 845

Wash with Eagle One or NXT. Absorber dry. IW seems to lose its looks and "feel", also beading after a few weeks.

I've always gotten at least 3 months out of 845 in the summer outside 24/7. Maybe the absorber is hard on waxes.

IW definitely lasts more than a "few weeks" and my daily driver will sit out 24/7. Something is wrong with this picture. Other than a good polymer sealant IW is the only product I'd consider putting on my wheels.

AlthoughI like EX I don't feel it has the same durability as IW.

FK2180 is a sure pick, I put it on my Mom's car in August, and when I got home in May, some of the paint was still beading (most wasn't though). Looks were still pretty good, as well.

Are you dragging the absorber across the paint or blotting? That could be where it's at. Maybe time to switch to a waffle weave drying towel or bring out the compressed air/leafblower.

Do you keep the TA garaged? When my vehicle was garaged, I managed to get months of protection from even Meg's Gold Class, but now it stays outside and I'm on a frenzy to find something durable-- nothing has worked yet.

Are Werkstatt's Prime and AJ both sealants? Got a website for them?

Thanks

mc, I dunno. The others are making valid points and solid product recommendations. I've been a Klasse AIO +SG user for a number of years. I've used that combo with great success on daily drivers that are used in conditions tougher than your own. I have excellent results and a great appearance with nothing more than a weekly washing. I did pickup the Sonus Acrylic Glanz and that helped extend the life and definitely brightened things up. So, since you own AIO, why not get SG as your LSP and do a couple of layers? I think it's worth a 2nd look.

Good luck!

Meh, I vote for FK2180 and AJ. Thats what I had been using on my '99 Accord grocery hauler for couple of months.

Zaino Z2 Pro is the longest lasting product I've used so far. I just got some samples of Werkstatt, so we'll see how well it holds up.

Doesn't sound too bad. A lot like what i do actually. Try buying a bottle of duragloss aquawax. It's only about $6 and will apply as easy as a QD. Throw it over the 845 and refresh it every couple weeks. Spray on, whipe off.
