Gonna be a picture heavy post guys.
Another black G35, this time an '03 sedan with 141k on it. The owner just bought it, took delivery on Tuesday and dropped it off here 2 hours later. He basically said "DO whatever it takes, I'll pay by the hour". He says he is going to mod it heavily so we'll see. Anyway I checked it out under the halogens and I can't lie, it wasn't totally hideous. It was bad, lots of swirls, some weird long deep scratches on each side (almost like it was driven through a bush or something), but I've definitely seen worse.
I told him it'd be 6-7 hours of total work give or take. Boy was I wrong.

As you can see it took longer. I'm pretty familar with G35 paint, since my car is a black G35 and I've worked on dozens of them, so my initial process was going to be Menzerna IP/orange via PC, Opt Polish/white via PC, Clearkote VM/grey via PC, CMW, drinks. I've done this combo on my own car a couple times, as well as literally 5 or 6 other black G35s without a problem
Started off fine, IP was making short work of swirls and scratches, it was hazing but I'm used to that. Seemed kind of like it was hazing a lot but I wasn't worried. If you read the other thread you'll see that my next step was the kicker. *Nothing* I was trying was getting the hazing out. I must have tried 10 combos. In the end after some help in the other thread I tried FPII on a grey at speed 3 with no pressure, and it worked. I did the whole car like this twice. The lesson here for me was that sometimes it isn't about more abrasion, more speed, more pressure, but a heck of a lot less. So the final process was:
Menzerna IP on orange via PC
A billion attempts to remove haze
FPII on a grey via PC, speed 3, no pressue, slooooow x2
RMG on a blue via PC
Clearkote CMW
Poorboys NL on trim, armor all in wells, VM on glass, Never Dull/AIO on exhaust. Megs insane on tires.
I personally think the car was repainted at some point and the owner didn't know about it. He says he'll find out. :nixweiss
After all the trial and error I'd say it was my most successful detail yet. The car is almost completely marring free now aside from some stone chips in front. The owner was out of his mind. I stuck to my estimate and charged him for 6 hours.
Pics.
Took these during IP to show the haze and before/after. IP'd area is on top, not polished is below.
The haze I was left with:
Afters forthcoming.
