Another '11 ZR1 detail.....with Video ;)

Hey guys, have another one for ya. This one completed today (6/27/11) and I was excited to post it up. Decided to shoot a short vid of driving the car since its one of the questions I get asked frequently.

This beast got a slightly different treatment than the red one. Instead of Blackfire Wet Diamond for the LSP on this one, it was decided it needed some very light correction, so I picked Meguiars D301 on the PCXP for correction and LSP. It goes fast and smooth and comes off easy and leaves a super slick finish. It also removed the haze and buffer trails from the carbon fiber pieces. Those roofs and ground effects are polished at the factory before shipping to GM and typically look pretty poor. Well the D301 cleaned it up nicely. While it didn't remove 100% of the swirls (expected), it did remove the haze/fogginess/buffer trails from it and left a great glossy finish.

Anyway here are the pics and the video at the end!

After rinsing it off (the water coming off with just the hose was BROWN!). It was still VERY dirty.

Still had the shipping plastic films on it. I love getting them this way for 2 reasons. 1) I feel like I'm unwrapping a present. 2) Means no one has messed with the car yet! Makes me happy!

Oh...how I'd love to be the one to "Get to know" this car! Someone with bigger pockets will get that privilege though!

Dirty ZR1 needs a bath, so it gets a Optimum No Rinse wash. Love this stuff!

Better! Washed and clayed.

Porter Cable XP, with Meguiars MF Finishing Disc (brand new)

After saturating the pad with product (important on the MF discs) its ready to start the application process

Applied and curing on the surface

Finished interior. LOVE the red stitching!

Here you can see there are still swirls in the carbon fiber clear coat. Since this car was not scheduled for a full correction, there would still be some remaining. However, it no longer has the foggy/dull look that they come with from the factory, it has substantially more gloss now.

Here is the video of a short drive. If you listen carefully you can hear the blower whine.

Thanks for looking!

Nicely done!

Yeah, those cars do sound MEAN, especially when they first start up. I was at a dealer one time and it just so happened they had a ZR1 sitting there, one of their lot guys came out to move it and I couldn't believe the sound

I know dealerships can be "Thrifty" but the holograms in the roof could have been fixed in less than a half hour Jeff, and for a ZR1 client as well............wonder what this dealership does with "Lesser Chevrolet's".........oh "The cheapness".

Car looks nice though.

Thanks Bob

I do like to give the roofs a proper correction when time allows, but sometimes I'm on a tight time schedule because of a shipping company on its way, cust pick up, or they have another car for me.

Fortunately the D301 took care of all the holos and the lighter swirls (should have taken a before pic I guess), leaving only the deeper swirls and RIDS. Perhaps I'll just start correcting the CF regardless....they all definitely need it.

The drive from Antioch to Redwood City is not "Around the corner" stand firm on price point and standards with a dealership and things will turn......if not....walk, this is Chevy's top vehicle and should be treated as such, more importantly the work is done by you for them but in a write up prospective clients eyeballing the pics will only remember that you did the detail.

Nice looking machine. Did you clay while doing the ONR wash?

And isn't amazing at how little plastic comes on the car? The two pieces on the doors and then the mirrors are covered. I guess because they are transported in covered trucks they don't feel the need for more.

The vast majority of the time its been a very good relationship. Thanks for the input Bob. You make a good point about prospective clients! Thanks!

Jeff I think many of us are floored by the number of ZR1s you have done so far. Very nice work, equally impressive on working with 301.

Hope all is well with you man.

Thanks Mike! I've got some 2012 Centennial Editions coming in soon and some more ZR1's :) Hows things going over there with you?

I'm confused..did the dealership ask you to do this job or was it the individual that actually bought the car that asked you?
